Federal prosecutors are being ordered to quickly respond to jailed New Orleans congressman William Jefferson's request to have his sentence vacated.
Jefferson was convicted in 2009 on fraud charges for promoting American businesses to African leaders in exchange for payments. His attorneys argue his dealings were wrongly defined as "official acts" and should never have been a part of his trial.
A federal judge has given prosecutors an October 31st deadline to respond.
Jefferson's lawyers acted after the U.S. Supreme Court tossed out the conviction of the conviction of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.
McDonnell was convicted of corruption in 2014 for promoting a vitamin supplement in exchange for gifts, vacations, and a loan while he served as governor.
Jefferson reported to a federal prison in Beaumont, Texas on May 4, 2012.
Sure non problem, he just has to do community service, serving ice water in hell first.
Must want to get back to some more cash he buried somewhere.
The bayous are full of buried cash.
Mr. Cold Hard Cash will have his crimes expunged by the ‘Shah of the White Hut’ in January.
I know he is a democrat but now everyone knows he is a democrat because it is mentioned no where in the story. And I remember he did play the ace card. He whined at a black caucus event and they cheered him for getting away with it at the time.
Jefferson was laundering drug money, too, but was never charged with that.
