Because if'n yer gonna play.... PLAY YOUR A** OFF!!! And if'n yer gonna dance... Dance like EVERYONE's watching.

Ping!!
Check it out when you get a chance.
Marvelous performance. I hate the outfits, though.
You KNOW there were some sore fingers after that duel!!
And Gillian Norris in the red dress... well, let me say this... I hope I NEVER get too old to appreciate that dance...
:^)
How about this one?

Maria Pages and Mike Flatly - “Firedance”
The guitar virtuosity is simply amazing...
Red dress? I saw one lady in shiny black leggings and top, and another lady in black tights and a shiny silverish tunic. (My computer wanted me to say “silverfish”!) A red dress would have been great.
I’m sure their fingers were fine. My husband and a couple of our children are guitarists, and the first thing that happens is your fingers toughen. Maybe at the end of a long show, though ... although my husband only complains when it’s been a few weeks since he had to do a Mass with lots of flamenco flourishes and weird chords. These ladies do this all the time.
There’s something about Riverdance and its follow-ons that resonate in my Irish core. I love it so much, it must be racist.
Here’s the Gillian Norris clip:

RE “first thing that happens is your fingers toughen. “
I know, I’m a guitarist too. Bass, guitar, and keyboards as well. Played on stages in nice clubs as well as dive bars.
My fingers get a bit sore now, as I don’t play as much as I used too.
But I can still shred when I want to.. :^)
Consistent playing is the key. My husband doesn’t get it in sometimes, especially if other people do the church service for a couple of weeks. Our 18-year-old daughter and 22-year-old son both play electric as well as acoustic. I don’t know whether he shreds, but he says he and his friend are recording songs, so I’ll find out if they ever public anywhere. They’re so “alternative” that, I understand, nobody else likes the music they like!
“...I love it so much, it must be racist....”
Even though it’s sarcasm (and I get it)... I see it this way: It isn’t “racism” - it’s self-preservation and celebration of culture, heritage, tradition, and our people.
It’s a celebration of thousands of years of music from one of the greatest cultures ever.
“...resonate in my Irish core...”
Music resonates in the core of those who open to heart to it, for sure.
I posted the Firedance video too, blending Spanish flamenco with Irish step, and it is just amazing to see it again.
The guitarist is phenomenal...
Same here, brother.
“..alternative...”
Haha! He’s just being young, that’s all.
I’ve been playing since I was 12. Played hard rock, metal, jazz, blues, fusion, fingerpicking, all kinds of styles. Grew up on Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Clapton, Blackmore, Eddie VH, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Moore...
That was very pretty. I used to be a Middle Eastern dancer, way back in my 30s, so the mix of ME with Irish styles is a bit odd, but she’s a very skillful dancer. I wonder what her original training was: ballet, jazz, Irish?
I wish I had her hair. It reminds me of Julia Migenes in “Carmen.”
Yes, young. At least he decided that getting a business degree was better than being an alternative guitarist camping in his car in Walmart parking lots.
“Carmen” is a beautiful opera. Bizet was a genius.
“...her original training...”
Maria Pages’ is her name.

Born in Seville, Spain
“...guitarist camping in his car...”
No Comment... Hahah!!!!
Seriously, though. I’ve ALWAYS worked during the day, and gigged on the weekends. Some weeknights, too, but that was always rough.
And the degree comes in handy when you need a paycheck! haha!
His older sister sat him down and said, “Bill, remember when we ate beans at every meal?” and reaching back in his memory, he remembered, and she said, “It wasn’t because Mama was on a legumes kick: we were poor!”
“You like food, right?” And thereupon, he decided there were other avenues to explore his musical talent (which is undeniable, and he’s a good artist, too).
“..You like food, right?...”
And THERE, in a nutshell, is the perennial “Bottom Line”... :^)
I love “Carmen.” My daughter bought me the DVD with Placido Domingo and Julia Migenes for Christmas one year.
If the dancer is Spanish, then neither Middle Eastern nor Irish is her natural style. Flamenco gestures are different from Egyptian, Arabic, etc.!
Indeed. He works full time in a grocery store, but always asks if we’ll save him something from supper. “You’ll never be poor, Bill,” I say. “Do we have any cough medicine?” “No, but you work in a store with a pharmacy. Buy some!” “No, I’ll be okay with tea.”
“You’ll never be poor, Bill.”
(We’re supposed to call him William, but he’s named after my father, so he doesn’t get to abandon “Bill” as long as he lives at home.)
“...as long as he lives at home...”
Parent’s Rules!!!!!!!!! haha!! Same here, with my kids.
