One thing that is missing in modern music is the FEEL one gets from real instruments played, not just numerous synthesizers. The production values in all types of genres, from the “Love Unlimited Orchestra” to “Earth, Wind and Fire”, rock acts like BTO, Glam Rockers like Bowie, Pop-Rock like Elton John/Billy Joel, and even straight pop acts like the Captain and Tennille was so much more full and artful than the auto-tuned syntho-pop-tart stuff these days.
This is not to endorse the lyrical content of any of these acts.

And also that music had to be engineered in such a manner that it sounded good on AM radio.

Yup. Listen to the spartan sound of Buddy Holley and the Crickets, bass, guitar, drums, backup vocals and not too much of any one on most tracks.
Same would go with stand out singers who belted it like Del Shannon and Connie Francis.

Got to give credit to the 'Love Unlimited" backup singers on this track.

Several years ago it was “Barry White night” at a Seattle Mariners home game I took my son too. The way he announced the players was hilarious. We still laugh about it.

(Even if the voices aren't real, they have some pretty good ideas.)

The Three Degrees. I remember they made an appearance in an episode of “Sanford and Son.”
