Waves thumb drive under Lassie's nose ....
"Smell that, girl? Go find more!"
................
"What's taking so long? What is it girl?"
"She says she doesn't do Windows."

Is the NY Post the same thing as the Onion?
The dog should certainly be able to find the BS in this story.
Meanwhile, Veracrypt is your friend.

How is that even possible. I’m skeptical.

after being purchased for $11,000 by the Franklin County Sheriffs Office in Ohio. I think someone was scammed.

Maybe they can train it to sniff out emails.

"being purchased for $11,000 by the Franklin County Sheriffs Office in Ohio."
Sounds like the Sheriff got scammed big time!

This is completely ridiculous!!
Porn doesn’t smell any different on magnetic media than anything else on magnetic media.
The dog is keying off of conscious or unconscious signals from it’s trainer.

At first glance I thought it said “sniffs out kiddie pork chops.”

This is absolutely impossible, unless dogs have ESP.
There is no “scent” to data bits, especially those encoding pictures.
This is disinformation to let Immigration take a suspect’s computer “with a plausible reason.” Juries will believe this was a reasonable opening gambit to detecting porn, as long as authorities play it up that drugs can be successfully sniffed.
This is completely bogus, though.

Okay....I know just enough about computers to be dangerous....but THIS does not pass the smell test. To coin a phrase.

Of course it is! People who can’t figure out how a thermos knows how to keep your coffee hot or your iced tea cold will buy it though.

This is bs. Data recorded to a hard drive is not going to have a distinct scent based on the nature of the data. Do they need cover for seizing the hard drive of a suspected child pornographer? That’s the only thing that makes sense.
