Deadly shootings near University of Illinois campus

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – Shootings at or near the University of IllinoisUrbana-Champaign and a related hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning left at least five people wounded and one person dead, police said.
In a statement, the city of Champaign said at least one suspect in the shooting is still at large, and the driver in the hit-and-run is still being sought.

Police said the incident between downtown and the university campus began as an argument inside an apartment.
“The argument transitioned outside where a fight broke out and shots were fired,” Champaign police said in a statement. “The victims in the incident were not involved in the fight. Mr. Korchev was walking near the area when the shots were fired.”
