A friend of mine is a Russian Jew from Azerbaijan, the same part of the world as Turkey. He’s lived here for 30 years (he’s a citizen). He told me that many years ago he had a Mexican girlfriend, and everybody thought he was Mexican based upon his appearance.

Spanish is based on Latin. It does have some Arabic influence from the time the Moors occupied Iberia.
