High-flying free speech in downtown Pendleton drew critical eyes this week.
Viola and Sam Moodys Liberty Flags & Gifts from Sutherlin is near the intersection of South Main Street and Emigrant Avenue. The business is one of many operating under the umbrella of the local nonprofit Main Street Cowboys during Round-Up. But it was the only booth displaying versions of the Confederate flag.
Weve been selling them like crazy, Viola Moody said.
They take the business to about 30 events a year, she said, and the flags are popular wherever they go. Young people seeking to show their rebellious side are frequent buyers of the flag, she said.
She and Sam Moody also said some people buy the flags because the government or liberals try to tell them they cant.

While I generally think the Gadsden Flag is a better choice, the Confederate Flag adds some colors absent in the Gadsden alone.
And yet pot shops all over the Pacific Northwest are A-Okay.
The Pendleton Underground is a wonderful tour. A lot of funny stories about the World War II years.
Confederate Flags cause global warming
we need a Free Republic flag
Most of us out here have a stars and bars-but is Oregon in the process of a transformation?
I would assume that rural areas are quite unlike the cities and always have been.
I’d think if you followed the big BBQ cook-offs throughout the country, you could sell many Confederate things.
I so hope the Daughters of the Confederacy start claiming these historical things are art, they are not racist.
Oh, no. Not this again.
I’ve always preferred the Navy Jack of the RevWar to the Gadsden. Same statement, same purpose, but American stripes and simpler layout (snake strung out rather than poorly replicated coils).
Big “New Earth Festival” this weekend in the small Hoosier town where my son lives. (Nothing to do with Gaia, thankfully)
130,000 people wandering around a town of mayyy-be 1000 over the 2 day event.
Hundreds of vendors and flea marketers and garage sales.
I can practically guarantee there will be at least 50-75 big vendors selling items and flags with the confederate flag on them.
Probably-certainly in the S and SW-there are few liberals in rural areas-maybe because they are not made to feel welcome-but they crowd into cities, where more people are just like them-I’m glad they stay there...
Even in New York state the rural areas are much more conservative. Big cities are always dominated by liberal inhabitants no matter what state they are located in.
The Gadsden flag certainly has less baggage; now the Confederate flag is equated with the South Park flag...
I was raised in a remote area, so I’ve avoided living in cities whenever possible-the times I had to live in one, I found the most outlying burb I could afford-it is almost like liberals are bees-only happy living in a hive...
On the other hand, what color is most of the Gadsden Flag? White.
Triggering problems.
We visited the Perryville, KY Civil War Battlefield a couple of weeks ago and there was no national confederate flag even though the confederates won the battle!
I was speechless.
I had lived in the burbs, but finally moved to the country in the mid 90’s never to live in the city of the burbs again. So it has been over 20 years now. When you are younger the city holds more excitement, but I am way beyond wanting excitement. If I should get a wild hair I can always go visit the city. The likelihood of that happening though is dwarfed by my likelihood of flying to the moon.
