UCI is the Anteaters (Zot!!) taken from the BC strip. UCSB is the Gauchos from the days when it was UC Santa Barbara College and it was a mainly female school in the 30s. UCSC chose the Banana Slug—because they’ve always been UC Santa Cruz.
