A 34-year-old Mexican citizen arrested in Mandeville pleaded guilty Wednesday (Sept. 7) to possessing a gun while in the U.S. illegally, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in New Orleans.
Salvador Acosta-Salas, also known as Jamie Gonzales Jr., faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Acosta-Salas' charge -- possession of a firearm by an undocumented immigrant -- stemmed from a July 30 speeding stop in Mandeville, court documents show.
When pulled over, Acosta-Salas got out of his vehicle and produced a Mexican identification card for Mandeville police, but he did not have a driver's license.
When asked if he had any weapons, Acosta-Salas told the officer that he had a pistol in the center console of his truck. The officer looked in the truck and found a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol and two magazines loaded with ammunition, court documents show.

Illegal immigrants have rights because rights come from God/natural law and not from government.
Illegal immigrants do not have 14th Amendment equal protection of privileges, such as the privilege of living in the USA.
The right to keep and bear arms is a right. When I was in IL I knew many illegal immigrants who practiced concealed carry. My life was saved twice by illegal immigrants who pulled a out their gun to stop my attacker.
Concealed carry by illegal immigrants is one of the best proofs of John Lott’s thesis.
1) He’s not undocumented.
2) He’s not an immigrant.

I ask this question from time to time.
If an illegal demonstrates on the street, and he is arrested for doing so, then his 1st Amendment Rights are violated.
If an illegal is stopped and his vehicle is illegally searched, his 4th Amendment Rights are violated.
If he is not mirandized and asked guilt seeking questions, his Fifth Amendment rights are violated.
If he is not provided counsel or jury trial, his 6th Amendment rights are violated.
If he punished far in excess than what is normal his 8th Amendment rights are violated.
If he is not afforded these rights, then his 14th Amendments rights are violated.
So, when can the illegal exercise his 2nd Amendment rights? After all, we often make the argument that it is a human right, yes?
I have to agree with you. Louisiana is a state that considers your car to be an extension of your house. Therefore you can carry a loaded weapon anywhere in your vehicle. So this guy did not break the law by having the weapon, he broke whatever law there is prohibiting an illegal from having one. Go figure.
I am assuming an illegal could not have had a background check to own the gun!!!
You don’t need a back ground check to own a gun in Louisiana. Just to buy one.
