In Massachusetts spouses can pass on property without inheritance tax. A caller to Howie Carr’s radio show was a lawyer who handled estate matters. He told Howie that under Massachusetts’s Law (going back to colonial times, before the U.S. was a country) a father may not marry his daughter and a mother her son, but consanguinity restrictions do not apply to same sex marriages. He said he had to advise widowed clients who wished to pass on their estates to their unmarried same sex children about this loophole. Just wait’ll we get polygamy.
So did you send this in to Grace for Police Blotter Fax Friday or what? :)
“...can pass on property without inheritance tax.”
Given the types of people here in this story, I really doubt they were involved in something as sophisticated as mischievous estate planning.
po·lyg·a·my pəˈliɡəmē/ noun
1. the practice or custom of having too many wives or husbands at the same time.
In contrast, we have monogamy (as seen by many, including some on FR):
mo·nog·a·my məˈnäɡəmē/ noun
1. the practice or custom of having too many wives or husbands at the same time.
I’m willing to bet that avoiding inheritance taxes is not a concern for these freaks.
