WASHINGTON (AP) Man-made climate change about doubled the chances for the type of heavy downpours that caused devastating Louisiana floods last month, a new federal study finds.
Using two different sets of measurements and computer model runs simulating thousands of years, scientists found a clear sign of global warming in the rain that triggered the flooding that killed at least 13 people, damaged 150,000 homes and cost at least $8.7 billion. More than 26 inches of rain fell in one week, with nearly a foot in just one day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

{However}, The Associated Press contacted 11 outside experts and most of them praised the science and conclusions of the study.
See how "science" works?
Bull crap.
Seth Borenstein alert!
And here I thought we were told weather events do not = climate. Huh.
Global warming inside the rain? Can it exist inside snowflakes then? Was it a neon sign?
It is scientific fact, proven beyond dispute, that there has been no statistically significant global warming in the past 100 years
Its impossible to blame storms in Louisiana on something that does not exist
All global warming is based on predictions of what may happen in the future, not what has actually happened in the past

And even then all you could find is that the earth has been very hot and it’s been very cold - and sometimes it’s been between the two.
At any rate, the earth has no “normal temperature” as a person does.
If global warming caused the rain, does that mean global cooling caused the lack of major hurricanes in the US for the last 11 years?
I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one.
There was a minor warming period for about 30 or 40 years until about 1997, and a gradual overall warming since the last mini ice age, which ended about 1810.
This is a cycle that’s been studied for the past few years, one of several periodic cycles of solar activity that affects climate, but not necessarily weather, on earth.
Factors affecting weather are the el Nino and such, jet stream, Gulf Stream, and other wind and water patterns. The solar cycles also affect weather, but over a long term rather than short term individual weather patterns. For example, the coming solar minimum will result in more harsh winters than we have seen since 1820 or so, but individual events during those winters will vary according to the position of the jet stream, equatorial trade winds, position and strength of the Gulf Stream, and cloud cover due to ash from various volcanic eruptions, which should increase in the near future, because of the solar cycle and other factors.
Dark Winter, a very good documentary, has a lot of good information about the affects of the solar cycles.

I do agree that the rain in Louisiana cannot be blamed on so called climate change, it was the result of weather, not climate. But your claim that there has been no significant warming in 100 years is inaccurate. Al Gore was only partially right, we did see a minor warming period during the 20th century, but it was ending, not beginning. But it was not as bad as he indicated, it was actually almost over.
Here’s the deal...Old weatherman axion: Cut off low-weathermans woe!
This low was originally modeled to do this over Florida but being a cut off low and no front approaching to move or nudge it drifted west and stopped over Louisiana...
Hell I could make as big a case for it being God Attacking the perverts of Mardi Gras and thier orgy and it would be a better case than depending on global warming.
Cut off lows have been around as long as we have had moisture on our planet. so screw these morons
Hopefull TRUMP fires all such people at NOAA an gets people who understand WEATHER and CLIMATOLOGY~
This is an abuse of statistics, or an assertion of a statistic where there is none.
To be scientific, one would have to have statistics on the frequency of such downpours in La (including variability). Then one would have to show that there are measurements indicating warming. Then one would have to show that the frequency of downpours in La after the warming was statistically different from the prior period. Such downpours in La are too infrequent to have any such statistics.
Bovine excrement.
The slight warming you mention was within the range of measurement uncertainty or could be attributable to urban heat island effect as measurement stations originally located in undeveloped rural locations that became developed urban areas
Proof positive Obama has been a failure at stopping global warming. What a failure.
MALE Bovine Feces, to be scientifically precise.
Yeah, I know. We’ve never had hurricane seasons before.
Why wasn’t it a stronger storm than it was?
What a bunch of whackos, these climatologists.
Well if you can’t predict the future - PREDICT THE PAST !
