Fairyland Fixes for O's Internet Giveaway [aw!m vanity]

Posted on 09/06/2016 8:59:56 AM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

After Obama gives away the Internet's 'phone directory' [at the end of this month] numerous FRiends assure me, "Trump will fix it when he's president."

I will make it clear that is wildly dangerous.

Besides, why wait?

Now that we've cut through the spin and made it easy to understand, this issue is a big win for conservatism and exposes the entire DNC's contempt for freedom of speech.

Besides, the more rapidly voters are aware, the easier the fix will be.

Assuming Hillary doesn't steal this election, Trump will wish he had prevented this treasonous outrage during the campaign. Here's what I mean ...

***

Possible Solutions for a President Trump

1. Sic the FCC on ICANN?

That would be like a Braveheart moment: Longshank's son's first solution for William Wallace: "I would simply fetch the local magistrate to arrest him."

If ICANN goes overseas with its directory software and expertise [which dates back to ARPANET], it locks itself in an international contract. The FCC will be worthless.

2. Buy off key leaders of ICANN?

Yep, it might be as simple as bribery.

Oh wait. There's a good chance they will lock themselves in a contract before Trump is sworn in. They are already having secret talks with China.

3. Threaten to flip the 'internet kill switch'.

That might intimidate ICANN.

But wait. They're a non-profit organization. Their contract will cover them if the entire internet shuts down.

Flipping the 'kill switch' would devastate the worldwide economy. A 'nuclear option' that offers equal leverage to BOTH sides of the negotiation table. Does that sound 'Trumplike'?

4. Send special forces to wipe out ICANN's facilities.

That would lead to cyber-retaliation. With its knowledge ICANN could team up with just about any US enemy -- government sponsered hackers on steroids. We would wish we had left them alone.

5. Pay ICANN off for temporary concessions.

That might work. Trump might even protect all US websites. But would it be worth protecting [UK] Daily Mail? Probably not. And after he leaves office, another president would most likely need to approach them hand-in-hat all over again. This is the 'gift that keeps on giving'. Why let a renewable contract ever hobble you again when the Russian Mob or Soros or China or Saudi Prince Alwaleed would lavish you with riches?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Opportunity
When voters understand what Obama is up to, the DNC will either cave or collapse -- the entire political party.
It's very simple. ICANN organizes every website address on the internet. And the US government has regulatory powers over it so long as its contract is renewed.
But Obama is refusing to renew that contract ** in violation of federal law **. Congress votes whether the contract is renewed, and it is the duty of the Executive Branch to carry out the signature.
It might be 'shorthand' to say that Obama is giving away the internet, but the internet is made up of domain names which ICANN processes according to whatever software the organization chooses to use.
If the contract renewal is not signed by September 30, ICANN is free from US regulation. It can then pick-and-choose which governments or foreign interests it wants to work with via a new contract [and for how long]. And it is holding secret talks with China.
Some globalist voters might want to see a 'Free Range ICANN'. I must admit it would be exciting. But the overwhelming majority would be furious if they only knew.
And -- the House should not simply chuck this to the courts. Sure, sue Obama. But also threaten to impeach him. The House only needs a simple majority to impeach. However, this will not happen until the public is red-hot with outrage.
This month is zipping by at a rapid pace. Yes, it's scary. Make that work for you. Share that fear with others.
How hard is that?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Problem Trump Would Face

If ICANN is released from its renewable contract, they are chalk-full of expertise.

Wikipedia:

"ICANN was established in California due to the presence of Jon Postel, who was a founder of ICANN ... ICANN formerly operated from the same Marina del Rey building where Postel formerly worked ..." [snip]

Even while working on his doctorate in computer science, Jon Postel was one of the pioneers who helped create ARPANET back in the '80s.

That's how far back ICANN goes with its mastery of domain name management. It would be some task for Trump to create a counter-ICANN.

Also, ICANN holds copyrights and probably patents I assume. Once that intellectual property goes under the umbrella of international law, nations will feel a claim if ICANN signs a contract with them. And who will side with the USA for free?

We need to start solving this ASAP.

The Congress obviously has zero desire to stop him on this, just like on pretty much everything else.

According to Professor Jeremy Rabkin: ICANN is the internet’s version of a ‘phone number’ directory.

I’m using Professor Rabkin as a hostile witness BTW. But imagine if China or Soros got hold of our phone directory! With the right software they could scramble our phone numbers overnight, spam people with automatic calls, harass people and businesses, and sabotage phone lines.

And with the internet they could get even more creative. Sure, the FCC would scream bloody murder, but those squeals would be music to their ears.

ICANN is NOT a corporation. They aren’t interested in profits. But backroom deals with key players? That’s the perverse way ICANN would be influenced.

I imagine you are correct — no immediate changes most likely. But the ming vase will be busted.

I’m posting your excellent question here. It’s the most reasonbable ‘easy fix’ yet:

“Why can’t a “dark” web be set up to provide conservative control over the valuable to ‘mericans parts of the web?”

[And I’ll repost the anwswer. But good thinking. FRegards ...]

If we start a ‘dark’ website ...

That’s one of those big ‘uknowns’. ICANN has a lot of expertise, copyright protection, and I would imagine patents.

And frankly, I wouldn’t want to tangle with them. They have experience dating back to ‘98. No one has anywhere near that level of experience. They have code stached away that would blow our minds.

Here was their first top scientist, Jon Postel:

Before the establishment of ICANN, the IANA function of administering registries of Internet protocol identifiers (including the distributing top-level domains and IP addresses) was performed by Jon Postel, a Computer Science researcher who had been involved in the creation of ARPANET, first at UCLA and then at the University of Southern California’s Information Sciences Institute (ISI).[4][5] In 1997 Postel testified before Congress that this had come about as a “side task” to this research work.[6] The Information Sciences Institute was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, as was SRI International’s Network Information Center, which also performed some assigned name functions.[7]

[They located their headquarters near his house. He and other ARPANET pioneers were the ones who got them rolling.]

ICANN would find allies in Google, Facebook, Twitter, Soros, and China.

So long as they remain in California and under US jurisdiction, we could most likely find a way to keep them honest. They are a utility with a monopoly.

But if they go overseas and team up with hackers there is no telling what kind of cyber-war would result if we don’t give in.

ICANN, a Pack of Liars
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3469994/posts

Paul Rosenzweig confirms everything I warned about.

... including ...

ICANN Secretly Planning to Move Overseas

A clear example of a lie by ICANN: they claim that they will remain under US jurisdiction and remain based in California. That’s not only a lie but a tricky, oily kind of deceit.

. . .

Testimony by Paul Rosenzweig:

“ICANN is a non-profit corporation incorporated in California. Some say that this is a check on ICANN’s activities, since it would be subject to suit in America’s impartial, professional court system. Indeed, in July, Assistant Secretary Strickling confidently declared “ICANN is a California corporation and will remain so.’

“I wish I were as confident as Assistant Secretary Strickling... The idea that ICANN would pack up and move has been contemplated by ICANN’s leadership.

“Back in June 2014, ICANN CEO Fadi Chehade announced, in testimony to the French Senate, that the Board had authorized him to begin, as one of five major initiatives, the creation of a ‘parallel legal, international structure (maybe in Switzerland) for ICANN.’

“These changes were recommended even though some Members of Congress have explicitly opposed this outcome.”
