WINTHROP HARBOR, Ill. (WLS) -- Two convicted felons who were not allowed to possess firearms were caught at a north suburban gun range after Evanston police came across a Facebook Live broadcast.
Police say members of the Evanston Police Department Intelligence Unit regularly monitor various social media outlets. On Wednesday, an investigator monitoring Facebook found an active Evanston gang member and convicted felon on parole taking part in a Facebook Live video from a Winthrop Harbor gun range, police said.
Facebook Lives are videos that users can make that post in real-time and then once completed, stay on the user's News Feed as a recording.

The Evanston Police are really on top of it. They once broke up an ad hoc, 4th of July fireworks show put on by neighborhood teenagers.
About one minute after the first fuse was lit, 4 or 5 squad cars rolled across the park’s lawns with lights and sirens and dispensed a contingent of blue shirts who swarmed the area taking rapid control of the unlawful assembly, chasing the suspects, and sending everyone home.
The officers got their overtime, the department could plug for a bigger budget, and the neighborhood could sleep easier knowing that the city was watching over them.
You would be surprised how well a hot girl profile does with criminals on FB. They friend her every time, even when they don’t know her.
Amazing concept, criminals don’t obey laws.
Who’da thunk it?
