FDA Orders Antibacterials Removed From Consumer Soaps
NBC ^ | September 2, 2016 | Maggie Fox

Say goodbye to those "antibacterial" soaps. The Food and Drug Administration says they do little or nothing to make soap work any better and said the industry has failed to prove they're safe.

Companies will have a year to take the ingredients out of the products, the FDA said. They include triclosan and triclocarban. Soap manufacturers will have an extra year to negotiate over other, less commonly used ingredients such as benzalkonium chloride.

Isn’t this the function of a free market? This is none of the business of the federal government.

Yep . . . “antibacterials” is right there in our Constitution, along with “penumbra”, “privacy”, and “1 gallon per flush.” Go look.

Half of all chicken in the UK now has antibiotic resistant
E coli.

Death is coming, engineered by Islam and Obama
and the lying, self-EXEMPT GOP.

it probably protects against Zika and they want to make sure we all have tiny heads. Voting for Hillary makes sense when you have a tiny head

Does this apply to dentists, surgeons, and other medical personnel?

WAY TO GO MAGGIE:

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking benzalkonium chloride topical: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

I don’t know if you recall, but about a year ago, a spate of articles came out purporting people would soon live “forever”....techno gurus were arrogantly claiming, it seems, to have solved the problem of mortality.

Then, a few months back, I see an article about how resistant some germs are becoming to antibiotics....

My point isn’t that the FDA is right or wrong, I think the consumer should have a CHOICE.

That green bottle with some chemical compound design on it, right? I don’t know if those are still around.

I am not a clinician, but I am an avid observer of things health-related.

While it isn’t really federal jurisdiction, it is solely the ignorant who insist on antibacterial soaps.

While there is little to no evidence that antibacterial soaps have any positive effect in non-clinical settings, there *IS* a lot of evidence that the improper use of these products is contributing to the emergence of so called “super bugs”:
bacteria that have become resistant to the agents used in these soaps.

By removing these products from the general public’s access, the people who actually NEED them can continue to use them, while those who only buy them “as a precaution” won’t be able to dilute/nullify the benefits.

It’s like folks who insist on antibiotic medications when they get a cold: it hardens the bacteria in their bodies while having no effect on the virus. This makes the antibiotic less effective for all who inadvertently are exposed to those same hardened bacteria later on.

*IF* the public were better informed by the responsible parties, then there wouldn’t be any call for the above actions, as a well-informed populace would shun these products for their own good. Unfortunately, the powers-that-be have been quite successful in dumbing down the people, and the manufacturers are more than happy to profit from the public’s lack of knowledge.

(2) Shower with bacterial soap tomorrow morning.

(3) Check in at Out Patient Desk at 7 AM tomorrow morning.

The government tells us to change our clocks twice a year, thus increasing heart attacks and strokes, accident fatalities,an increase of cortisol in the bodies causing obesity, and makes little children go to school in the dark when they should be in bed. Any nation of sheep that has put up with these ridiculous intrusions into their lives for over 50 years deserves being led through life by government bureaucrats who control virtually everything from how to flush our toilets to how much salt can be in our food. Land of the free? The Founders would be horrified.

What you say makes total sense. Kind of what should have happened to tobacco.

I just DESPISE federal intervention.... for every ONE thing it might do “right”, there are SCORES of unjustified actions. Better to let the market work.

The regulations would only cover soaps and body washes used with water. Antibacterial hand sanitizers, wipes or products used in health care settings are not included in the regulations.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services stopped recommending flossing. I went to the dentist last week and jokingly badgered them on “The Gov’t says I don’t have to floss anymore, having food stuck in-between teeth is OK.”etc.
Hey, at least the Gov’t isn’t banning floss (yet)

They should stay out of the soap business. Put info out that ‘antibacterial’ may not be effective and may be harmful - the marketplace and consumers will adjust on its own.
(This ruling is based upon “May be”)

The market has no control over residual bacteria that survive the purge and as the survivors are free to grow in a world where they can’t be killed.

As #13 shows, there *IS* a legitimate use for these products. The problem lies in having 4 yr old little Suzy or 6 yr old Brandon “wash up” constantly with the stuff.

I see TV commercials advertising for people that have been affected, and may have even died ... to contact some lawyers because TALCUM POWDER is the cause of cervical cancer (or something like that) and the manufacturers never told anyone !!!

They KNEW IT and sold the poison anyway !!!

I can't WAIT for President Trump's administration to start kicking asses.
