Professor Jeremy Rabkin is concerned about the Internet Givaway, but he attempts to 'sooth the sheeple' with his Weekly Standard article "ICANN CAN'T".
But wait ... then he backs up most of my warnings.
The professor also suggests an international oversight system modeled after the World Bank or the IMF. [Creepy, right?]
For those who don't know it: Obama is committing an impeachable High Crime -- he's illegally refusing to renew a contract that restricts ICANN to federal control. We lose control THIS MONTH -- September 30.
And people are too confused to get angry about it.
"ICANN CAN'T" started off extra-snarky:
"Then it’s easy to imagine ICANN is that center, with thousands of beady-eyed nerds monitoring computer screens showing traffic patterns throughout the World Wide Web ... But that’s a screenwriter’s fantasy."
ICANN is just like the "phone directory", right?
But the devil's in the details.
In that same article:
"Down the road, there is some risk that ICANN decisions might complicate international diplomacy."
And if you have the time, you can muck through a word search on the rather long article. Search out 'account' -- just remember that 'accountable' and 'accountability' is a milktoast way to describe 'gatekeeper powers'.
Now for this ...
"Established websites on traditional domains (like “.com”) worry that their names will reappear in new domains (“.biz” or “.fun” or “.rec”) and divert confused customers to competing sites—or to scams. Squatters often rush to register established website names in the new domains, so they can sell the rights to the original owners (of the same names, in older domains) for a hefty fee. There is no reason to trust an unaccountable ICANN to strike the right balance here."
And guess who the King of Squatters is likely to be?
George Soros. He could easily have squatters buy up various optional domain names and demand impossibly high fees. For example -- this forum. If ICANN holds us 'accountable' and strips us of our domain name? We might seek 'freerepublic.us'. Uups. A Soros buddy bought it.
[Just a hypothetical above, but rooted in the realm of 'probable' -- I will add a link that Soros is actively seeking to place a gatekeeper over the internet.]
And even if we have optional domain names, what's to keep ICANN's future cronies from holding us 'accountable' for them too? We could be kicked off site-after-site-after-site.
The article seeks to paint this as merely a 'slippery slope', that we still control the internet through the FCC.
But wait -- computer code enjoys copyright protection. ICANN undoubtedly has several copyrights of critical code -- how domain names are registered. It is their 'intellectual property' even though the US taxpayer had funded the initial research [via ARPANET].
They most likely enjoy PATENTS as well.
When ICANN signs a new contract, those patents and that code will fall under international jurisdiction. They need only relocate their headquarters overseas -- checkmate.

Soros is considered an economic terrorist by Malaysia and a few other nations. The USA is harboring a terrorist with Soros. The USA strongly objects to other nations harboring terrorists. Soros should be sent to these nations to stand trial.
Soros is also dictating a lot of our political policy while his business headquarters are in the Caribbean so that he can avoid paying taxes in the USA.
