A COURT in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a man to ten years in prison and 2,000 lashes for expressing his atheism on Twitter.
The 28-year-old reportedly refused to repent, insisting what he wrote reflected his beliefs and that he had the right to express them.
The hardline Islamic states religious police in charge of monitoring social networks found more than 600 tweets denying the existence of God, ridiculing Koranic verses, accusing all prophets of lies and saying their teaching fuelled hostilities
He was sentenced under a controversial law that defines atheism as terrorism.

Normative Islam has a record of 1,400 years of barbarism and oppression, often state-sanctioned. Some of the new atheists are speaking out now against Sharia; more need to do so.
That’s our ‘ally”.
This is the seventy century, but with cell phone and fighter planes.
Atheists in the US get triggered when you say that Islam is terrorism.. yet..
“ He was sentenced under a controversial law that defines atheism as terrorism.”
This is how a religion acts when it’s most public representatives are very insecure and may even harbor their own private doubts.
See North Korea for a current example of how a State Leader acts when he is pathologically insecure about his ability to lead. Krazy-Kim recently had a man shot to death for sleeping during one of his lectures. Kim has had at least 70 officials killed since he took power.
I’m an atheist. I detest Islam.
2000 lashes - no big deal according to slate.
Thousands, if they’re performed correctly
can’t he just pay the jizya tax?
Yes, it’s just one of the great coincidences of human history that 95 % of the countries dominated by Islam all have almost no zero freedom, individual rights , and religious freedom . It has nothing at all to do with Islam ..
Try to avoid Saudi Arabia, okay? They’re not very understanding.
These are generalizations that I speak of.
And while you’re here, I have to ask, because it’s been coming up in conversation: What are the major things preventing you from believing in something “Supernatural” ?
Been to Jeddah, Tripoli, Karachi...all hell holes. But, the women in Lebanon...super attractive.
A fully functioning brain...for one. I don’t hold the rantings of Bronze Age men in high esteem either.
He must have broken their bikini brief laws.
I’m an atheist also. You’ll find a few Freepers who feel the same. But I fully respect others feelings when it comes to this. FR is clearly and loudly a pro-Christian site, and most of its members are true believers. My friendly advice is to not argue with them. Neither will “convert” the other, and the useless acrimony does nothing to advance the conservative cause of this site. Just my $.02
oh I know.
I seriously hope and pray that you find Christ.
That said, I will not argue with you about your beliefs on this score and in fact would defend to the death your right to believe as you do.
That’s the Conservative and FReeper way!
Should have cc’d you on my above post...
