Nationalist CAQ Leader François Legault wants to put the brakes on immigration

ST-JÉRÔME — Left unchecked, Quebec’s current immigration level poses a threat to language and culture, Coalition Avenir Québec Leader François Legault said calling for a massive cut — 10,000 fewer a year — in new arrivals.

They're pretty strong about their culture, those Quebecois.

“What I want to do is defend Quebec values,” he said. “I was always a nationalist in the PQ. I was a nationalist the first day I launched the CAQ.

I’ll die a nationalist. I love Quebec and I want to leave Quebec a French Quebec, a Quebec which has values we can be proud of and among them is the equality of men and women.

“That is not negotiable.”

I was in Montreal last year and you can see the other culture standing out loud and clear.

In the Montreal suburbs the PQ ran strong and won seats in the General Election as a reaction to the Islamising of Quebec.
