1. Go to San Antonio
2. Leave the tourist area.
3. Look for a place that is a bit run down..
4..and has old, beat up pick-up trucks parked outside.
5. Bonus points if the staff doesn’t speak English.

Oh, don’t try this at night.

1. Go to San Antonio

There used to be (talking a quarter of a century ago) a great place on St. Mary's near the bus station. Usually packed at lunch. I went in one day, and the place was half empty but the service was slow. Just a few other people besides me and a couple of tables of border patrol agents in uniform.

I want a place with a little old mexican woman cooking and a staue of the virgin mary of quadalupe in the kitchen.

I like flour tortilla chips (terry Caballo Blanco) in Sacramento

went to SA last week for son’s basic training graduation, ate Mexican on the river walk, a complete bland mess. saw a dump surrounded by old cars about a mile from the base. place was full of mexicans and the menu was in spanish, it was a superior gustatory experience.

San Antonio is the best Mexican food on the planet. Have you ever tried that taco joint on Hildebrand in an old converted house where the flour tacos are so big you can only eat one?.

My first visit there I ordered three and everyone in the joint laughed..
