Dirk Gently!?! Sweeet!
Is this an entirely new Dirk Gently, or a continuation of the series BBC did a few years ago? That one was pretty good.
Looks like a new series. Oh well, they may rehash things the last series already did, but anything Dirk Gently is exciting I guess :)
Not in any way remotely British.....but cool!
Hey BBC! How about re-doing “The Tripods” and actually finish it this time instead of leaving us hanging!
Dirk Gently premiere date! Yes. I can marathon my own TOS and I still don’t understand why BBCA shows so much Trek. But Dirk Gently, that matters.
I’ve seen some of these “remastered” versions. They replace shots of spaceships orbiting and stuff like that with modern, pretty good, cgi. The enterprise looks more real, the planets look more real, and there are shots where the enterprise “flys” by the camera and you can see people behind the windows of the ship walking and stuff.
It’s kinda like a classic car with a modern suspension.
I still dont understand why BBCA shows so much Trek.
Well that’s easily explained by the nation have no taste, as demonstrated by their cheese.
Because the writing is usually better than Dr. Who.
Oddly enough.
My daughter when young was a huge fan of the new Dr.Who but as she developed as a writer she saw the huge holes in the writing, and has since become a classic Trek fan. It really is much better written.
I don’t understand why the Beeb doesn’t have more love for it’s own properties like Blake’s &, Sapphire & Steel, The Tomorrow People, The Tripods etc.
I can see Star Trek literally everywhere.
Blake’s & = Blake’s 7
A Stilton is a noble thing.
There is no cheese out of America that compares.
No wonder I never really liked Dr Who. I was a HUGE Star Trek TOS fan. Meanwhile, a friend loaned me a dvd of a bunch of episodes from last year’s Dr Who and I thought they were beyond lame and juvenile. I suppose it is an acquired taste.
They have an enormous range of British SF and fantasy literature to develop, but they dont.
BTW, I hotly anticipated TNG. I watched the first two hour episode and was done (I watched an episode here and there). I called it “star trek for women”.
They did not fire a single weapon. It was liberal pap. My favorite example was the one where a crew member became hooked on the holodeck. The premise denied our humanness. In the REAL world, if we had such a thing, EVERYONE would be addicted to that thing.
Remastered are the ones I own. I like them. They really did a good job of upping things just enough to get rid of most of the cheapness without changing the character. So the Carbonite Maneuver ship no longer looks like a bunch of light bulbs, they got rid of the smear on the wall Michael Ansara’s make up leaves during Day of the Dove. Little things.
Picard surrenders the ship. Kirk would have blown it up.
There are some good episodes of Dr. Who, and one great one, that uses the time-travel angle nicely, get “Blink” (2007).
If you think about it, there was a lot of Zen Navigation in TOS!
