The U.S. Navy used blimps quite effectively during WWII as antisubmarine weapons. They’re quite stable - as long as you don’t fill them with highly flammable gas.

Yeah, but what most people forget is the Hindenburg was painted.

A powdered iron oxide red primer coat, and a powdered aluminum shiny top coat.

Powdered iron oxide and powdered aluminum, do you recognize that recipe?

This would make an excellent ASW platform. Fill it with sona-bouys and it could hover over a hostile sub totally unaware that it was being tracked. Give the patrol aircraft a break.
