American swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, revealed that he suffered a crisis of identity two years ago, which led him to consider ending his life, but it was Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life that gave him hope.
ESPN reported that Phelps was "struggling to figure out who he was outside the pool" in 2014, which led him to heavy drinking and wondering whether his life was worth living.
"I thought the world would just be better off without me," Phelps admitted. "I figured that was the best thing to do just end my life."
The 22-time medal winner, who is also set to compete at the Summer games in Rio, said in a seperate interview with NBC's "Today" that his DUI arrest in 2014 led to a "downward spiral" that left him feeling the lowest he had ever been.

Gold Medal Olympic Star doesn’t think his life worth living.
Doesn’t take brains to swim.
Have any of you ever had an experience where God pulled you out of dark times through a book, mentor, friend, prayer, etc.?
Yes to all of the above. Worldly success does not sustain me.
The Lord has helped me through many different writers/believers. He brought me to a place where His Word now makes more sense than all of them, but He met me where I was at. He is so kind.
For Michael Phelps, all that gold couldnt glitter until he found God

Nor post, apparently.
It is hard to believe a world wide hero could reach that point without any real catalyst. He was just a year or two off of the ultimate level of success. I hope to hear more later. It’s a real lesson on life’s difficulties.
Pfft. Michael Phelps the pot smoking Olympic champion said it not me.
He ain’t got nothing to live for, nope nu uh. What a joke.

Your understanding of psychology is breathtaking.
I suggest you pursue a career in waste management.
[He aint got nothing to live for, nope nu uh. What a joke.]
Matthew 16:26
26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
Could start with the Talisker’s and pot smoking Olympic Champions of the world.
If he were to commit suicide would he drown himself?
Ouch!.....(I love it).....lol
“revealed that he suffered a crisis of identity two years ago”
I’m 83-—————happened to me many times over the years. :-)
It’s known as life.
.
He grew up with no father .
Children often have self worth issues when one parent ignores them.
His father was a no show his entire life.
Sad.
What was that? Olympic Champions?
Yes, you would throw them away, wouldn't you?
Especially because it shouldn't be possible for a pot smoker to win TWENTY THREE GOLD MEDALS, should it?
Because then, why, YOU could be WRONG about POT.
So, since that can't be allowed to happen, your solution is to "get rid of" the Olympic Champions.
On second thought, waste management would be a step up for you.
Ray Lewis was the one who gave Phelps the book. Fascinating.
I don’t necessarily agree with everything Rick Warren has to say, but I am glad that this young man was able to use his words to better his life. God is good.
I love pot. I just hate hearing Olympic champions with 23 gold medals think their life isn’t worth living. Even if it was in the past. For F@#$s sake guy has everything going for him, and he comes off as a whiny who am I pajama boy.
