American journalists wedded to a tradition of objectivity and impartiality that can seem suffocating to the British sensibility are asking themselves two big questions: How the hell can we be objective about Donald Trump - and should we be?
It is shades of Brexit all over again but on a gigantic scale - the winner of the US Presidential election gets their hands on the American nuclear button.
In the UK referendum campaign many national newspapers were ludicrously biased and became cheerleaders for leaving the European Union in a way that would shock many American journalists.
The BBC faced a more subtle challenge - and had to wrestle with its honourable tradition of impartiality, not always successfully or appropriately in the Brexit case.
But mainstream US journalism, once you get away from the crazy radio talk show hosts, takes objectivity very seriously and you sometimes feel they need at least two on-the-record quotes before they will claim that California is hot in the summer.
But how can you be objective about a man who says he wouldn't necessarily support a NATO ally under attack, who is an admirer of President Putin, who disrespects the family of a dead Muslim military officer and who wants to build a wall across the entire south of the US to keep out Mexicans?

What we deserve from the media and what we get are two vastly different things. Most of those who go into the media do so because they carry a radical political agenda with them, deeply ingrained into them in school. They’re not fighting a war for truth, they’re fighting a war for their extremist, anti-American agenda. The Fourth Estate is the Fifth Column.

The constitution requires it....we need to take those who oppose the constitution to task. That’s our weapon.
The purpose of objectivity in journalism is the pursuit of revealing the truth. In the past, journalists were driven to uncover facts that led their readers to understand the hidden reality behind situations and people in the news. What we see today in journalism is the creation of mendacious propaganda that tries to create an alternate reality. Why would anyone continue to read stories that are a pack of lies that serve only to obfuscate and confuse the pursuit of revealing the truth? I stopped reading newspapers and stopped watching TV newscasts long ago. The media was already bastardized as long ago as the era of Yellow Journalism. The popular media was full blown communist during the Cronkite era.
So true. They see themselves as advocates for the poor and oppressed and sadly most see the only answer in oppressive government control.

This guy is kidding, right? The American media has *always* been biased. The only thing that has changed in the last couple of decades is that non-liberal media has been gaining strength, and the liberal media has become louder and more blatant to try to drown out the voices of opposition.
If we truly had an objective media, I think the history of the United States, and probably the world, would be quite different. After all, the media went all-out to cover up the atrocities in the USSR and red China, and it still won't honestly report on Cuba. After over a century of biased reporting designed to sway opinion and push us towards totalitarian dictatorship, do we really think the media is going to tone down its bias, now that their end goal is in sight?
This election is truly about preserving American freedom. Of course the media is going to everything it can to destroy the last vestiges of freedom.
The MSM was pretty rotten in the 1800 election. Just ask John Adams.
It’s really sad about how absolutely corrupt the media has become. When you also include our court system, the IRS, DOJ, DHS, FBI, White House, member of congress, leaders of both parties, we end up in a really bed situation.
