Red Sox scrap 'racially insensitive' David Ortiz bobbleheads
ESPN ^ | August 9, 2016 | Darren Rovell

Boston Red Sox fans who attend Tuesday night's game against the New York Yankees will no longer receive David Ortiz bobbleheads.

The team promised to distribute Ortiz bobbleheads to the first 15,000 fans entering Fenway Park before Boston's game against the Yankees, but Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said he elected to postpone the promotion after doing a quality check.

"I thought the bobbleheads were an inaccurate portrayal of David," Kennedy said. "To go further, I thought the facial features were racially insensitive."

“Apparently, the Red Sox have a George Costanza kinda guy working in their office and setting up the promos.”

Next thing you know they’ll be wearing cotton uniforms.

Sounds like the guy for the Indians who thought “10 Cent Beer Night” would be a good idea. What could possibly go wrong?

I just hope the Rangers didn’t waste their money making Prince Fielder Bobble Head dolls.

I'd rather get a Star Trek bobblehead of Spock or Kirk that has been to the edge of space and back.

Spock

Kirk

Text from SpaceWeather.com advertising this:

CAPT. KIRK AT THE EDGE OF SPACE: Where Spock goes, Kirk must follow. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek and to support their crowdfunded research program, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched the captain of the Enterprise to the stratosphere on July 27, 2016. Note the moon over Kirk's shoulder in this photo taken 36 km (118,100 ft) above Earth's surface.

You can buy this collector's item for only $129.95 in the in the Earth to Sky Store.

Proceeds from the sale support space weather research. Bobblehead Kirk hitchhiked on a helium balloon payload that carried an array of X-ray/gamma-ray sensors. By launching these sensors 3 or 4 times a month, the students have shown that cosmic rays are intensifying--a trend that affects mountain climbers, air travelers, high-altitude drones, and astronauts on the International Space Station.

Looked like a pretty good likeness to me, and certainly not offensive in any way.

ok I agree ... but an hour? really. My wife just made Japanese Ramen from scratch with my daughter tonight and it was 3 hoursish. Are you saying raw pasta and sauce from scratch in an hour or from prepared stock?

I’m talking 55 minutes waiting for my 83 year old mother to bring it, and 5 minutes in the microwave :)

Then there’s the black power salute.
Maybe these were supposed to be a rapper and reworked to fill the order; add a hat and paint a uniform.

Sure looks like Ice Cube there.... Who was repurposed into Ortiz dolls. What better way to get rid of some unsellable bobble heads. Its not like 10 year old boys can tell the difference

Then came the nine-year, $214 million mega-contract with the Tigers, the franchise that employed Cecil for six-plus seasons in his fence-clearing prime.

Prince spent just two years in the Motor City before a trade to Texas, though he made a pair of All-Star teams and a World Series appearance during that time.

The first neck operation followed in 2014, and with it came the beginning of the end.

Fielder’s deal with Detroit is an albatross in hindsight. In June, Sports Illustrated’s Cliff Corcoran named it one of the worst contracts in baseball, and he wasn’t wrong.

It’s easy to forget, however, that prior to 2014, Fielder defined durability. He appeared in at least 157 games every year from 2006 to 2013, and he played in all 162 games four times.
___________________________

And just like that, Fielder’s career is apparently over. After having neck fusion surgery for the second time in three seasons he’s reportedly expected to announce Wednesday that he is physically unable to play, thus ending his career. The medical designation means he will collect on the remaining $96 million, he’s owed on the nine-year, $214 million contract he signed with the Detroit Tigers in 2012.

Reminds me of a joke, and I can’t remember who it was or where, but it went:

“Whenever an Italian family eats at Olive Garden, God cries.”

LOL

***sigh***

I miss that, growing up in Mass. and working in Boston for a while. The restaurants, pizza shops and BAKERIES. OMG THE BAKERIES.

There isn’t a good pizza to be found in the whole south, I’m afraid. Especially here in Arkansas. I think the water has too much limestone. The crust tastes like cardboard no matter where you go.

We do have a little Italian area here called Tontitown. The Duggars live there. They have a couple little wineries and you can get your spaghetti with a side of.......wait for it.....

FRIED CHICKEN.
