The first weekend of the 2016 Rio Olympics is over and, with final results in, were now getting a cleared broadcast picture of where these Games are headed. It aint London, to put it mildly, but it may be online. Also, looking over the opening weekend, Rio is way behind 2012 and 2008 and even 1992 in total primetime viewers something that ad buyers on NBC cant be feeling Gold medal winning about.

One would also think they’d eschew all the lame programming tactics that turned off so many viewers previously.
Human interest BS, for instance. The crying swimmer repulsed me, sorry.
No thanks.
I have not watched, nor will I give one second of my time to this sham.
What grabs me in the few moments I view their programming is that the elites think I am stupid.
The programming is mainly focused on emotions and political correctness.
I watched the parade of athletes promenading into the stadium, acting like a bunch of 8th graders with a substitute teacher, and as a result, have no desire to see them compete.
People watch that garbage?
I’ve been given a chance to view judo (shirt grabbing), synchronized swimming, and throw the ball in the house key net. I’ve declined.
NBC, programmers are stupid.
If they can’t time it, measure, or have participants score, then I don’t consider it a sport. Might be hard to do, might be athletic-ish, but I don’t care.
Floor dance is out. Golf is in.
Also, to get rid of the pros from all countries for the most part, make it 25 years and under.
Phelps is the only thing keeping the rating from falling through the floor.
NBC owes Phelps big time!
Speaking of advertising, there's a string of commercials every 3 minutes. Half of the airtime is commercials. I can't stand it.
Let’s take a break from our one minute of sports for three minutes of mindless interviews and four minutes of commercials. It would be unwatchable without the DVR’s fast forward button.
I heard the olympics are happening this year. Does anybody know when they start?
Johnny Weir would disagree.
J.P. Sears really likes the olympics (Hint: this is high deadpan comedy!)

I agree but since I don’t have a DVR, its simply unwatchable.
I’ll wait until its over and watch the ones I like on youtube.
Yep, when he turned his life over to God, he became another person. Ray Lewis gave him a copy of Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life to take to Rehab with him.
Hubby has been watching on several different channels on DISH. I read, but take time to watch a few events. I like the gymnastic events with Gabby or the shooting events along with the swimming/diving. Cycling is BORING.
Couldn't be because they put Matt Lauer, Bob Costas and their gang of bimbos on coverage to tell us the lefty lib viewpoint?
well... the only thing worth watching for awhile was the skimpy bikini’s of the girls beach volleyball teams.
what did they expect?
I watched a part of the London opening ceremonies and that was it. I watched even less of the Rio opening ceremonies. Since then nothing has been interesting enough for me to watch so like 4 years ago Rio will not get me to watch. The stories about Rio have a degree of awfulness to it but it is like slowing down to watch a mangled car wreck on the highway.
I like handball, field hockey and water polo.
Those are sports you normally don’t see on any channel. That’s about the only thing that makes the summer Olympics interesting.
