Military veterans thrive as entrepreneurs Military veterans thrive as entrepreneurs

SIERRA VISTA — “I started indoor cycling classes in my garage with that raggedy bike over there,” laughs Tina Voigt, pointing to an older model stationary bike in her gym. “I had three other ladies and eventually we grew from my garage to the park, and now we’re here.”

Here is Voigt Fitness and Personal Training in Sierra Vista — a modest 2,000-square-foot fitness studio located off Wilcox Drive. Co-owners Tina and Robert Voigt are retired Army non-commissioned officers and two of Sierra Vista’s many vet-trepreneurs who’ve found post-military success by going into business for themselves.

Military veterans own 9 percent of businesses in the United States. Cochise College’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides free resources for veterans, their spouses and dependents to make informed business decisions.

Reminds me of the government memo cited by Laurence Peters: Erase your initial and initial the erasure.

I saw a lawn maintenance truck with a skull and crossbones, which I believe is the symbol of a Marine unit. Arching across the top it read, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.” Straight across the bottom it read, “Lawn Maintenance.” A phone number was below.

Well, it’s either the Marines or it’s pirates. You’ll need to listen for a “Semper Fi” or an “Arggh, matey” to be sure. :=)
