The wife of a man shot and killed by Houston police lashed out at Mayor Sylvester Turner on Tuesday, prompting the mayor to gavel a short recess of city council.

The outburst in council chambers came after Nikita Braziel and a group of two dozen protestors held a news conference outside City Hall, calling for change of HPD's body camera policy.

The group called the cameras a failure in the fatal shooting of Alva Braziel on Cullen Road on July 9. The videos previously released only show the aftermath of the shooting, with a dying Braziel in the middle of the road. Officers did not activate their body worn cameras in time to capture the initial confrontation.

Is this the one that was caught by video from a neighboring filling station with the perp in the middle of the road firing into the air?

Body cams should not be able be to turned off by the cop, and set on at the start, and downloaded and locked up at the end, of the shift by the supervisor.

Both sides agree it protects the cops, so it needs to be done right. Now there’s yet another screaming political mess that simply never had to happen if the cam was just on. Denying BLM their excuses has to be nailed down. And this is basic stuff.

I don’t understand the concerns. He can still vote for Hillary in November despite his drug convictions, can’t he?

Sorry but that will never happen, cops look at and talk about sensitive information all day. You have to be able to turn the camera off from time to time.

Sorry friend. They’re on the public dime. Every second needs to be on the record. If you don’t like it, find another job.

It concerns violations of federal privacy law the cameras cannot be on when officers are looking at sensitive data either in the station or their MDTs. If you don’t like it, be the police yourself.

It can still all be subject to subpoena.
