EDITORS NOTE: The following commentary was submitted by Derek Osburn, President of the Sierra Vista Police Officers Association
This letter is to express our appreciation for the overwhelming support you, the community, have shown over the last week since the Dallas tragedy in which five police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. Even though this occurred in Dallas, anytime a Police Officer loses their life, it affects all Officers nationwide.
Since the morning following the shooting, Sierra Vista Police Officers have received cards of appreciation and thanks from both adults and children; food, coffee, gift cards, flowers and yes, donuts. Furthermore, uniformed officers in the field are receiving handshakes, hugs and verbal appreciation for the service they provide to the community. The comments from you include thank you for protecting us and keeping us safe and keep up the great work. These simple words of kindness may not seem like much, but please know they continue to encourage and inspire us in these tragic and tough times. In what sometimes feels like a thankless profession, your acts of kindness and generosity lift our spirits and motivate us to recall why we entered this profession, to serve and protect by helping our community. Our calling is in public service and although we dont expect a thank you in return for our service, you have shown your appreciation and we thank you in return for your words and acts of appreciation and encouragement.
Sierra Vista is an Army town, just outside the gate of Ft. Huachuca.
It is heartwarming that folks there reached out to law enforcement - they know how it feels to stick their necks out for the public.
Still Small town Values,
LoveIt!
