Honesty doesn’t hack it.

A Boston taxi cab driver is disappointed he only received a $100 reward after returning $187,000 cash lost in his car.

“I thought maybe he would give $500 or $1,000, maybe one of those bundles,” Raymond (Buzzy) MacCausland, the lucky cabbie who found the fortune told the Daily News.

He had to return it if the owner had proof it was left there. Of course, it would be one’s word against another, I guess.

A friend who was a teacher, also drove a cab in the evening (~1965).
Before driving he would clean the assigned cab, and then he found a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL!
Walked back, logged the cab back in and went home.

He said it was the best night he ever had!

With all due respect to the reporter and the cabbie, he is morally required to return the money. That is it. The idiot who left it behind is not really required to give the cabbie anything in return , especially if it wasn't his money, and he otherwise couldn't afford to give the cabbie ANY amount.

That said, 100 bucks is kinda cheap.

My first thought was that any guy who would be carrying around $187k would probably have the wherewithal to get a couple of leg breakers to come looking for you.

Then I found out the guy was previously homeless and had just come into all this money (what financial institution would give someone that much cash?) and he’s probably not quite right in the head.

The cabbie probably kept him from blowing it all on booze, dope and hookers for a couple days.

Back in the late 70's in the Newark NJ area, a guy was out for an early morning run and found a bag of cash that fell out of the back of a Brinks truck. The bad held $1.1 million in cash that was on its way to be burned. He turned it in and got a $1,000 reward. I remember his interview on television where he told the reporter how disappointed he was in the size of the reward. he expected more. He was a regular guy who worked in a warehouse. A few months later his wife divorced him.

Keep the cash, and the cannolis.

why didn’t he turn it into the cab company? wouldn’t it have been their property just as much as if the driver found it on the dispatch room floor?
