Coolidge was sworn into office by his own father. Vice President Coolidge was fishing or hunting with his father (a judge) when he got news of President Harding’s death. His father gave him the oath of office.
They were waiting at a general store in Vermont for a telegram and when did come that Harding did die. Coolidge said to everybody lets have a Coke. He paid for his own but no one elses. The only President to balance the budget all 4 years he was in offfice.
