They were waiting at a general store in Vermont for a telegram and when did come that Harding did die. Coolidge said to everybody lets have a Coke. He paid for his own but no one elses. The only President to balance the budget all 4 years he was in offfice.

Silent Cal was, without a doubt, the most honest conservative president ever. I also like him because he was prez when I was born and I follow his model and am a conservative too.

I cannot understand how Americans could be so stupid and brainwashed to have ever elected such progressive losers as Wilson, FDR, JFK, LBJ, Carter, Clinton and worst of all, Obama. All were not only commie/progressives but also were among those who did not honor and keep their presidential oaths of office.

Polk was the man who added more acreage to the USA than any other president but Obama is now attempting to give it all back to Mexico. He has opened the borders to as many as can come across. He should be impeached for this alone (among all of his lawbreaking policies and “laws”).

I stated on another thread today that in the 20th century we’ve had only three great to good presidents: Reagan Coolidge Harding

I've always said that Coolidge and Reagan were the greatest presidents of the past 100 years. I'll have to read up more about Harding.

Happy Independence Day!

As a student of Harding I would say that you didn’t study quite enough. If the Teapot Dome is to be held over Harding I would say it’s totally unfair.

I don’t believe you have fairly evaluated this president.

Harding was a dishonest and dishonorable man...

Au contraire, mon ami.

(A bit of French lingo there to demonstrate my fondness for the little froggies.)

Under Harding wartime controls were eliminated, taxes slashed, a Federal budget system established, high protective tariffs were restored and he imposed tight limitations upon immigration.

If only succeeding administrations accomplished as much!

He did some good things, like the Naval Treaty. But he was lackluster, even as a senator from Ohio. One of the major bios of Harding is called Shadow of Blooming Grove, as he was dusky and suspected of being partly black. After nearly a century, a DNA test was taken from a Harding descendant, clearing the president of the perfidy. That’s just one instance of the power still being wielded by the Harding family to maintain his ‘reputation.’ However, recent DNA tests have also revealed what the family always denied -— Harding fathered Nan Britton’s daughter.

Much of Harding’s correspondence with an Ohio paramour, Carrie Philips, has been suppressed by the family, much as in their time Nan Britton’s The President’s Daughter was the object of attempts to bury it.

Harding had no direct hand in Teapot Dome, but his frequent sessions with the boys from K street were easily fueled by alcohol, illegal at the time. This included the Alaskan train trip where he moaned that his friends were more of a hazard than his enemies. His depressed demeanor and escapist behavior during the trip suggest Harding was beginning to find out what had been going in under his administration. It is surmised that his health was suffering from his nerves, resulting in his fatal heart attack days later, not from ‘eating bad oysters in Seattle.’

If a serial philanderer, who surrounded himself with thugs like Gaston Means, doesn’t deserve the contumely such as we attribute to the family Clinton in our day, then I suggest we’re dealing with a case of partisan-based denial, and not any particular lack of knowledge on my part.

Granted your French is amateurish, your English comprehension is obviously non-existent.
As the Ancients correctly asserted, character is everything, as it defines a man.
Harding was a low and dark person of corrosive and vulgar character who disgraced his wife and family multiple times, as well as habitually consorted w/frauds and hustlers since his early days in Ohio Politics. Only his death kept him out of prison. But lets evaluate your laundry list of his “accomplishments”:
* Wartime controls were eliminated. Hm....a war fought more than 4000 miles away that ended before he was elected. Wow!
* Taxes were slashed. Hm.......taxes in the twenties were trivial, as Tariffs were the source of 95% of the Revenue necessary to run the Government.
* High protective Tariffs were restored. Hm.......as Irving Fischer, Benjamin Graham and Lord Keynes correctly pointed out, these Tariffs, following the economic destruction of the Great War, were the prime catalyst for the severity of the Great Depression.
*He limited immigration. Hm.........we had an immigration problem in 1924???
Harding was political trash, just like the rest of them.
Try getting real and read book or two.

I didn't read past your first insulting sentence.

Is this standard procedure with you or has Warren G. Harding brought about the worst in you? Do you make a habit of attempting to degrade others who post on this website? Do you scan articles in feverish search for someone to attempt degrading?

You labor under a false impression that you are above everyone else and are the more superior and intelligent one. You, sir, are beyond my contempt! You are apparently an attack dog that derives pleasre from denigrating others.

Unlike Obama, he failed to completely vet his appointees.

Today’s Obama vetted his. If they shared his hate for America they were a shoe-in.

A sincere apology for my intemperate language and tone which was unnecessary.

Calvin Coolidge was the last of the Puritans.

I count him among the best 7 presidents we’ve had.
