Come on, man. It is just a homemade firecracker. That’s what the local paper said it was. Just some yutes fooling around.

Agreed...it’s insane they won’t acknowledge this. The order comes directly from the White House.

According to my local news, it was left behind by a ‘firework enthusiast’.

What IED? /sarc

Those are only found in Iraq or Afghanistan, and those reports were dwindling down too.

We are now constantly dealing with the "No true Scotsman" gambit:

"No Scotsman would ever drink Irish Whiskey!"
"I'm a Scotsman and I drink Irish Whiskey."
"No true Scotsman would ever drink Irish Whiskey!"

Terrorism? That always involves bombs, and it always takes place overseas. We have workplace violence and such, but we have no terrorism.

IED? Those are things that are buried in roads in Afghanistan. We don't have IEDs in America. Certainly not in parks. Nope. Not here. No way.

We try to ignore Reality by defining things into impossibility.

It is rare that even Iraqi terrorists actually make their own explosive material. They take it from various ordnance and repackage it.

You would see an unusually high demand for nitric acid if someone were making explosive material from scratch.

In all fairness, “IED” is a military expression, not a police one. The term comes from the British Army in the 1970s, who coined it while fighting the Provisional IRA.

It is important to call domestic bombs something *other* than IEDs, for the simple reason that the expression is being used to justify military involvement in domestic policing.

(2012) “Warning about the “growing threat” of IEDs across the United States, several congressmen and the Pentagon are pushing for Congress to relax the Posse Comitatus Act, which substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement unless under precise and extreme circumstances.

“House Committee on Homeland Security leaders Reps. Peter King, R-N.Y., Daniel Lungren, R-Calif., and Michael McCaul, R-Austin are leading an effort to amend the Posse Comitatus Act in order to allow the Pentagon to coordinate with local law enforcement bodies.”

Okay, the young man stepped on an OME. The OME took his foot off. I am wondering if there are other OME in the park? An OME repeated often enough becomes an IED.

Good. IED is a sanitized phrase. They should actually use the word “explosive” straight through no initials every time. Stop using soft language, keep the active words.

I’m wondering if they are home made at all.

The statements about small size, makes me think the explosive was a detonator. Some use HE and are capable of this kind of damage.
