Charlie Daniels came to Al Asad Airbase, in Iraq, on a USO tour performing in a dust storm. He had to be convinced by much cajoling to leave the stage, as the winds were becoming dangerous, not to mention the negative health aspects of breathing in fine particulates of blowing sand and who knows what else that the wind might of picked up crossing a war ravaged desert/nation.
The carpenter shop that I worked at was tasked with constructing the stage. One privilege by that fact, was a front row position, so as to be in close proximity, should the need arise to make repairs.
Charlie eventually conceded to stop playing, as the commanders did not want their soldiers, seamen, airmen, and marines out in the storm, and they weren't leaving as long as Charlie kept playing.
Charlie went over to the base theater and signed autographs in a meet and greet session.
Charlie definitely supports our men and women in uniform, and cares deeply about our country, and wears all of it on his sleeve- 24/7.
