Heck! There were two legit attempts in my Marine bootcamp platoon alone (1993). Me and the other recruit on firewatch found one bleeding out in the head after cutting his wrists, and a couple weeks later another firewatch found one hanging himself. The senior drill instructor thrashed the platoon in a sticker patch for what felt like an hour (hard to tell time there), because (as he put it) we weren’t taking care of each other. Both were white kids. One of them was the son of an Army Sergeant Major. Investigation afterwards is normal. Public outcry? LOL...of course not. We complained about serving under the Clintons. Looking back. We had it good compared to what it must be like today.
