This is a good move. I have about 100 chickens right now and they lead pretty good lives and when it’s dinner time the end is very quick and they don’t suffer.
You are fortunate. We thrive on wild-caught protein.
You can’t compare the taste to factory raised poultry.
Bravo to you husbandry has been going on for centuries, since mankind domesticated animals.
I want to raise my own chickens but hubby won’t let me.
I am no animal rights nut but I do think that raising them and dispatching them in the most humane way possible is the right thing to do.
After all, they give us sustenance and we should be grateful to them for giving us their lives, and in thanks should not make their lives or deaths miserable.
We have five hens because we gave up factory eggs several years ago and the cage free and free range are pretty pricey. Ours live in a gourmet predator proof coop with custom built henhouse courtesy of Mr.GG2. They are spoiled rotten. I wish we coujcoujld have a hundred but we are currently still in the burbs.

I think Nate Bargatze is hilarious!
It’s just a different view on happy chickens.
