Rules previously put in place by the city of Cleveland would have left pro and anti-Trump groups sharing protest space, but a likely settlement to be reached will allow groups to have their own space to protest.
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against Cleveland due to grievances over a restrictive 3.3 square mile security zone and a parade route that was potentially out of the sight and sound of delegates it would be meant to protest. The group Citizens for Trump, who was involved in the lawusit with the ACLU, was particularly worried about their safety due to potentially bottlenecking with anti-Trump groups.

If there is a pro Trump contingent there WILL be violence. My bets are on the pro side. A “first win” so to speak.
The protest marches going over that Carnegie Bridge is real questionable. It would bring protestors into the city's near west side, meaning large groups of folks into an area that would otherwise be unaffected. And it would jam up movement of people before and after those marches.

I think you misread. I read his comment that if there were pro-Trump folks there, the anti-Trump folks would be sure to start trouble and that the pro-Trump folks would win the battle....

The MSM might have given Trump some favorable broadcast time before they realized that he might win the nomination. Since then, it's almost all hit pieces.
I watched Trump's entire speech and press questions from Scotland. It was beautiful. Of course the MSM did not show it, but did find broadcast time to lie about its contents.
