Friends it's Sunday night again and time to relax. Warm up the tubes for another 4 hours of classic radio Americana.
Info *tonight's show will be available at the "Info" link starting tomorrow.
Official OTR Blog of "The Big Broadcast" thread:
Longtime radio personality and The Big Broadcast host Ed Walker passed away early on Oct. 26 at age 83. We invite you to leave your thoughts and remembrances.
Ed Walker spent 65 years on the radio. His last program was unlike any other.
Evening all, just spent a sunny day watching golf...
Well, here’s a first, there’s no Dragnet being played...not sure what to think of that...
Seems like GracieAllen really does like Burns and Allen...can’t remember much about the Stan Freberg show (I don’t have good memories), Phillip Marlow...and then ending strong with Suspense from ‘44 and Lux from ‘37...
How’s it going?
Hi, Vision. You have to check the discussion thread on today’s show page at WAMU: http://wamu.org/programs/the_big_broadcast/16/06/26/the_big_broadcast_june_26_2016#disqus_thread
Murray completely disregarded the complaints he got about jacking with the three intro shows. He seemingly doesn’t care what we all think. I commented on there that he’s going to lose listeners over it. He’s probably going to lose us. I have very little interest in tuning in to a “diversity” loving, “politically correct” liberal taking over this show, which is what he apparently is.
Stan Freberg did musical comedy. I think Ed played his stuff a couple of times. Did you go to the Congressional golf tournament?
Yes I was at congressional. Left about 3pm, hung out around 10,11,12,13 the most...
You a golf fan? I'm watching now but don't play.
Oh, we won’t leave this forum, but I’m guessing we’re wasting our efforts trying to convince him. There are people on those threads who almost sound like shills telling him to keep on changing it all up. They may be genuine, but they could also be his buddies. Who knows? I think he’ll do what he wants to do, regardless of what faithful listeners want.
I’m watching it now. Good story with Billy Hurley being a Annapolis grad.
Congrats to him and the family.
It’s been a busy day for me. I’ve been dealing with a burglary at our friend’s house. She’s out of town, and I’ve been watching her house each week. Today I discovered the break-in, so Keith and I have been over there securing the front door. I met with the police and filed a report. That’s about all I’ve gotten done today, so far.
Keith said you were at that golf tournament he’s watching on the computer. Very cool! How’s your week been?
Week was ok, nothing major. Haven't been getting much sun so the veggie growth has taken a pause.
Next week I'm down in Williamsburg for the holiday. Can you host the thread? I'll check in but there's a torch led Williamsburg Military Tattoo I'll probably be marching behind...
No news is often good news. I’ll be glad to host the thread next Sunday. I’m probably just blowing smoke about dropping Murray Horowitz. We will not likely “leave” the Big Broadcast. I’m just disappointed—though not surprised—that we now have a liberal host. What did we expect on that NPR station?
If he starts acting like a loser we can make his life hell...or more hellish than it is...
:-D
The new host is taking the show in a different direction. I don’t care for it.
How do you describe it? Academic?
