Two professors at the University of Northern Colorado were investigated after students complained that they were forced to hear opposing viewpoints.
One professor instructed his students to read an article from the Atlantic written by Foundation for Individual Rights in Education's president Greg Lukianoff and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt titled "The Coddling of the American Mind." The article explains that allowing students to hide from controversial and upsetting ideas (like through the use of "safe spaces" or "trigger warnings") actually harms those students by not allowing them to confront those opinions.
After reading the article, the professor asked his students to address controversial topics such as abortion, gay marriage, global warming and transgenderism. The professor made no indication as to what his opinion on the matters was, but one student, who identifies as transgender, was upset that the professor even referenced the opinion that "transgender is not a real thing, and no one can truly feel like they are born in the wrong body."
Instead of learning how to confront this opinion and be able to adequately teach someone how they are wrong to believe that, the student felt they shouldn't have had to hear it in the first place.
Never mind that the professor wasn't even expressing his own opinion this student just wanted the discussion shut down. And the school obliged.
This is what America's colleges are becoming.

Please tell me this is satire.
I was hoping someone would tell ME that!
Correction, this is what America is becoming. Complete and total shutdown of opposing viewpoints is the Left's endgame.
A quick google search tells me that this story might be true.
But it can’t be! Colleges haven’t fallen that far into collective insanity, have they?!
Any parent who sends their kid to this university is an idiot.
It would be nice if the transgendered was strong enough to tackle this issue WITH sarcasm. With their paper discussing the varying viewpoints, but with the threat of a lawsuit entwined.
They could title their paper “A Modest Proposal”.
“Diversity is the hallmark of a free and just society. Everyone that doesn’t agree with the personal and legal choices of others should be put to sleep. (Some may say shooting squad - but guns should be outlawed, so....). Or at the least arrested.”
Well, yeah, but, why would any college class need to discuss transgender ism for any reason.
Transgenderism has no basis in reality, only in the delusions of certain persons and the willing acceptance of those with little or no moral compass.
If this isn’t satire, this is true insanity.
The parents of the offended student should immediately stop paying tuition because he/she is certainly not getting an education or being taught to think critically.
This reads as if it came off the pages of The Onion. Sadly, it’s not. This reminds me. There’s a lot of phony praise among the libs today for young people being on the right side of the Brexit issue. Then I read crap like this and realize we have to protect these morons from themselves.
Mom and Dad take note. There’s still time to wise up before you write the check in August.
You’re better off taking that money to the track, frankly.
“This is what America’s colleges are becoming.”
This is what parents have allowed America’s college to become. Parents hear about these things, but don’t think of getting together to voice their complaints. The families should sue the university for false advertising; they are not running a university, which is supposed to be a place of free inquiry and discussion. The parents and the student afraid their student will be singled out and become a target of unfavorable grades, etc. Ditto for the high schools and elementary schools and preschools. A student putting his foot into university today is entering a circus arcade of mirror distortions. By the time he finishes, he thinks that those bizarre images and indoctrinations are gospel. If he has an inkling otherwise, he doesn’t dare say it.

It is. Academia is engaged in self-satire. I won't call it "the education system" because it clearly is not.
Kind of a problem everywhere. Most kids seem to be this little spoiled snowflake who always got a “participation trophy” from people who push the “everyone’s-a-winner” theme of life. Well, sorry Snowflake, life’s not like that and the sooner you realize that fact, the sooner you’ll start to grow up and quit acting like a spoiled brat.

From all the stuff I read I’m more convinced then ever that unless you’re going into a hard science, college is a waste of money.
One of my kids is an Aerospace Engineering major. Hard science-worthwhile. He also goes to a small university where they don’t have any time for the nonsense. The one fluff class they all dread is some sort of an art culture class. They are trying to teach all these black/white brained students to appreciate a little gray by adding some culture. They are all scared of that class.
My oldest two have associates degrees and may or may not go further based upon what they decide to do for a living.
My youngest isn’t a real academic type and needs to find a good trade, which I wholeheartedly support. He’s also got some chronic health issues that may limit some of his opportunities.
Too bad the student is incapable of giving as much respect to others as she/he/it demands from them. And the university is controlling the thoughts of others by using force.
UNC is a liberal arts college which might explain this incident.
