Security: As night follows day, the mainstream press has been full of stories about how the Orlando shooting marks a turning point in the long battle for strict gun control laws. It doesn't, and it shouldn't.

If Sandy Hook wasn’t, THIS sure won’t be.
These votes were particularly disgusting. It was an attempt to use sympathy for the losses of the gay community to turn a few votes, for hastily and poorly written measures.
Wouldn't it be nice if instead the US Senate had voted to protect us against Radical Islamic Terrorism?
It does not and never will. There will never be a point where Americans are told to “turn them in” and ALL gun owners know what the gunbgrabbers want. I would not want to be in Law Enforcement when gummint turns the most patriotic and law abiding segment into millions of cop killers with the stroke of a pen. LE knows this, libtards know this, we all know this. Perpetual efforts to advance this agenda are just hollering “boogeyman” and frankly, I have had enough. Look at this charade. The GOP and the Rats each bring two bills that everyone knows not one will pass but they go through the motions until the spotlight fades. Kabuki Theatre. Shame on the Senate. “Greatest deliberative body in the world?”. Meh!
“for hastily and poorly written measures.”
The Republican measures might have bee hastily written, but I guarantee that the Democrat measures have been written well in advance, and are structured to infringe on the Second Amendment to the maximum amount thought possible to pass.
These are the same restrictions attempted 3 years ago. In that attempt they tried to build support over several months. They failed, but not by much. It was a close thing, hard fought, and we won.
This time, they attempted to push it through with lightning speed, voting before the funerals were finished. The thought was to get it through while emotions were high. It failed spectacularly.
We are winning on this issue.
The only turning point is that this is the end of their tyrannical rule over this nation. We are going to focus on them and what they have done.
“It does not and never will. There will never be a point where Americans are told to turn them in and ALL gun owners know what the gunbgrabbers want.”
Never is a long time, but I agree in principle.
The strategy is long term incremental confiscation over generations. It is the Fabian strategy; slow, incremental, long term change. If the country had not revolted at the ballot box in 1994, it might have worked.
Now, we are turning back the clock, removing some of those increments. It shows the “progressives” that there strategy is not inevitable or invincible.
The safest place you can be is where everyone has a gun.
The safest place you can be is where everyone has a gun.
Exactly. The turning point we are reaching is the nadir of Progressivism.
You are exactly right. That statement is so right, everyone should immediately show intense support.
Didn’t these measures go down because they failed to attain 60 votes? Did they not all at least achieve a simple majority?
Doesn’t say much for the GOPe majority, IMO.
Anyway, no confiscation without registration. Eat it, DiFi.
300+ million population
300+ million guns
32,000 gun deaths/yr(?)
<0.0001% you’ll be killed by a firearm. Higher if you’re a gang banger/thug
So, what was the problem again?
Regardless, the overall death rate remains at 100% for all causes.
I believe I read that they failed 44-56 or by 16 votes.
No. The only one to achieve a majority was the Republican measure that was to increase funds for background checks. It got 51% of the possible vote.
