HP warns of notebook battery fire risk

HP has recalled batteries sold with a range of its of consumer and business notebooks over concerns the devices could catch fire.

The tech giant has asked customers who purchased certain Compaq, ProBook, Envy, and Pavilion laptops between March 1 2013 and August 30 2015 nationally to turn off the device, remove the battery and check its identification number.

It is warning the affected devices could catch fire and burn the user.

This is one of the problems encoutred when relying upon similar sources for select supplies. Seems the major manufacturors might have been better off finding more places to have their components manufactured. Cheaper is not always better.

I have an Envy laptop at home. I’ll have to check it after work. Battery life on that thing is very short.

This has turned out to be a problem for more than HP, don’t forget. Then again, battery life never seemed to be all that great for the few HP machines I dealt with.

The link is for an Australian web site. Does this also apply to American sold HP laptops?

If you read the article, HP just announced a recall for certain models and part numbers.

Not a recall of specific models in one specific country, region, state, or city.

This information is being posted in several publications, I merely happened to read it on the iTnews .aus site and started from there.
