Yep. He’s usually playing three dimensional chess while his critics think it’s checkers.

A rather extraordinary disconnect between the headline and the story. Holy cow.

-- Davy Crockett, in his autobiography, written about 1835, complained how people refer to the "government" as if it is a separate, sentient being who no one is responsible for. --

Yeah, but the word is a convenient shorthand. Certain people have the right to threaten or use force in order to obtain compliance. We call this group of people "the government."

Usually the compliance being sought is justified, legal. Sometimes it is not. When a member of the government unreasonably uses force, or wrongly puts somebody on a list, that usually has no remedy. The bad actor in the government suffers no punishment, the innocent person is harmed, and that's just the way it is.

The government (or as Crockett would say, the government employee) who acted without justification is accountable only in the most exceptional of circumstance.

“When a member of the government unreasonably uses force, or wrongly puts somebody on a list, that usually has no remedy.”

That is because they know most people don’t have the money to fight “the government”.

But, even the Roman emperors were afraid of a united people in opposition.

I’m not concerned at all about Trump talking with the NRA.

If Trump was speaking with Moms Demand Action, THEN I would be concerned.

This headline is bogus.

Except you end up on these lists with no notification to you no due process and a long tortuous course to getting off. Any of us might be on the list as domestic terrorists for being right wing Christians who lost on free republic Would you like to lose your second amendment rights on that basis?

“And Mr. Trump, Republicans’ likely presidential nominee, posted a Twitter message saying he would meet with the National Rifle Association to talk with them about the issue. “

I like that Trump meets with experts and listens before making decisions. He said he did that with real estate deals, even asking cabbies and local residents about neighborhoods. No one person can know everything and being humble enough to admit that is amazing for a politician. but that’s why he’s not a politician - he listens to people and considers all sides and the impact. Unlike the liberals, whose legislation is full of unintended consequences.

“That is why the government is like a woman (to quote Jack Nicholson’s character): “Think of a man, and take away reason and accountability”.”

I take it you are divorced? Or married to a liberal?

Exactly. The San Bernardino terrorist wasn’t on the list. The Orlando terrorist wasn’t on the list. There may be no Muslims on the list at all, given the lunacy of this administration.

How many grandmas and grandpas whose politics ain’t right ARE on the list? How many more will be added with this fiasco?

There must not be any secret lists. Put it all in court, complete with free legal counsel to fight it, to eliminate governmental abuses. Period.

“Do you know what it takes to make one of those lists? What if you found out that posting on a pro-freedom website earns you a spot?

That’s my concern.

We could all be put on the watch list, just for expressing different opinions. The rules around the watch list are not robust enough to be violating people’s rights. They will have to change that IF they want to go this route.

-- That is because they know most people don't have the money to fight "the government". --

That's part of it. Another important part is that most of those who do fight, lose the case in court on account of immunity, inability to show personal malice, or lack of damages.

As for wrongly being put on a list, the accused will have to pay for the correction, and whoever put that person on the list, wrongly, will have no consequence. I would bet that the list makers will be awarded bonus money for putting people on the list - like speeding ticket quotas. The more hazards flagged, the better you are doing your job.

-- even the Roman emperors were afraid of a united people in opposition. --

Turns out they had nothing to worry about. They didn't lose the Republic by public revolution against the emperor or the senate.

Anyone can get on those lists for any reason. I have a friend that made the no fly list just because she had the same name as someone else.

They kept them content with bread and circuses and sports entertainment, just like today.

“Personally, I think any US citizen on the list should either be arrested and charged, or removed from the list.”

The Orlando shooter was on the list for a while, but they had nothing to charge him with. If everyone on the list had to be arrested or removed - there would be no list!

I think the way the watch list works is fine (I mean the rules about it, not the way it is implemented). If the Orlando shooter was still on the list, the FBI would’ve been notified when he bought guns. They could’ve taken actions and possibly prevented the shooting. The problem is they took him off - probably because the PC mode is to remove Muslims because they are ‘unfairly’ targeted.

People’s Constitutional rights won’t be violated, but those that are suspect can be watched. Good enough.

My son is on the no-fly list. He was put there at age 2. He shares the name of a man who was a bomber for the IRA.

I predict the no-fly list is going to get pretty massive should they pull this stunt.

If you want to revoke someone’s 2A status, then you better show cause in a court of law. Period.

One guy with a pistol could have stopped this idiot in Orlando. Shooter can’t watch everybody. Eventually someone gets the gun and shoots him.

Instead, he’s allowed to shoot people from 2AM to 5AM and nobody is talking about why it was the police was unable to protect those unarmed people in that club.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, city with the most strict gun laws in America, how many died last weekend?

49 people shot in a club in Orlando. 64 shot in Chicago over Memorial day weekend and it barely makes the news.

Racism in journalism anybody?

The media didn’t cover it because the shooters and victims were black.
