Starship is a great band. Took me a while to recognize it.

“you can count on me”

Funny you posted this. In the past few weeks I added this and some other JS oldiees. Count on Me—love that one.

This song was responsible for a minor baby boom all by itself - or so I was given to understand back then, only being in grade school myself =). Anyway, while I hated the song at the time, I’ve learned to appreciate Marty Balin’s talents since then.

Marty Balin is a terrific singer and songwriter. The rest of their oeuvre doesn’t impress me much.

One of my favorite classics 70s. It successfully combines R&B with psychedelia.

I spent a lot of time around these people back in the day. One of my friends married a band member and I got to be a bridesmaid. Unbelievable, looking back on those times. A miracle, maybe.

Marty Balin is a terrific singer and songwriter.

That prompted me to load up Balin's 1981 hit "Hearts" on YouTube. Nice, light tune.

Loved this song. Volume up all the way when it came on. Course, that was back in the day when it did not hurt my ears to have it so loud.

Is this the one where he’s in jail humping his guitar?

Great song, one of the worst videos ever.

Sarah, another great tune from Starship.

Like the Disco Dead with Shakedown Street, the Airplane crashes with pap like this and ‘we built this city on rock and roll’. Of course, that came after they had to completely disavow their past by dropping Jefferson and becoming simply ‘Starship’. Blecch.

With no Jorma Kaukonen they’re just bad (IMHO).

Marty Balin had one of the greatest voices in rock - ever!

Remember “Hot Tuna”? Jorma K and Papa John Creech (the older black guy who played violin) were in Hot Tuna.

Balin always seemed a bit out of place in the band, though.

I think the whole Altamount thing kind of ruffled his edges...

I think he was the only band member who never slept with Grace.
