New Orleans police identified 15-year-old Ryan Davis as one of the suspected juveniles responsible for a string of armed robberies and carjacking across the city.
Police said Wednesday (June 8) that detectives obtained a warrant for Davis' arrest. Once in custody, he is expected to be charged in connection with two carjackings and five completed or attempted armed robberies committed from May 28 to June 1, police said in a press release.
The attacks came during a seven-day period in which New Orleans saw 42 armed robberies or carjackings, roughly twice the weekly average during the first three months of the year.
Davis and two other teens were inside a stolen silver Toyota Camry stopped last week (June 2) by officers near Lotus and Gladiolus streets. Police arrested one of the three teens, a 15-year-old whose name has not been released, and for whom charges are pending. But Davis and the as-yet unidentified third teen managed to escape officers.
The victims of at least six armed robberies have described a silver vehicle as being used by their assailants. And a silver Camry and black Dodge Caravan were used in a carjacking last week that ended with the arrest of another 15-year-old already on probation and wearing an ankle monitor at the time.
On Wednesday, police said investigators are still trying to determine how many of the robberies were connected. But commanders for the 2nd and 6th district, where some of the incidents took place, said the group that included Davis is believed to be responsible for 13 recent armed robberies or carjackings. And police suspect that a
