‘Captain America’ comic likens critics of Syrian refugee programs to Nazis (Red Skull Pro-Trump)
Washington Times ^ | 5-23-2016 | Douglas Ernst

The relaunch of Marvel’s red, white and blue avenger puts the ideological views of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s critics into the mouth of Nazi villain “Red Skull.”

“I have just come from Europe — my homeland, in fact. And do you know what I saw there? It was an invading army. These so-called ‘refugees’ — millions of them — marching across the continent, bringing their fanatical beliefs and their crime with them,” Captain America’s nemesis says. “They attack our women, and bomb our cities. And how do our leaders respond? Do they push them back and enforce the borders, as is our sovereign duty? Of course not. They say, ‘Here, take our food. Take our shelter. Take our way of life, and then take our lives.’ Despicable.”

So Red Skull would vote for Trump. That's okay, Captain America is a Nazi too-- you didn't hear?

From Marvel:

Q. In the comic the Red Skull of Hydra talks about “criminal trespassers” who “make a mockery” of America’s borders and calls the refugees in Germany an “invading army” bringing “fanatical beliefs and crime” to Europe. Obviously, this hate speech is nothing new for the organization, but it sounds like rhetoric we’ve been hearing this election. Is that purposeful?

A. We try to write comics in 2016 that are about the world and the zeitgeist of 2016, particularly in Captain America. Nick Spencer, the writer, is very politically active. He’s a Capitol Hill head and following this election very closely. So we can talk about political issues in a metaphoric way. That’s what gives our stories weight and meat to them. Any parallels you have seen to situations real or imagined, living or dead, is probably intentional but metaphorically not literally.

Wikipedia first sentence:

Nick Spencer is a comic book writer and former politician.

As if one wasn't bad enough.

Basically, I LOATHE American values.

I couldn't hack it getting elected as a liberal politician so I quit all that and now I SH*T on America with very young, credulous readers as an audience instead.

So much for escapism. The kind of dreck this Nick Spencer is excreting pretty much defeats that goal.

Funny how decades of writers managed to appeal to a wide audience. Clever writers would perhaps put a personal opinion in a story, but often in a literary sense that would require the reader to read between the lines to discern it. It certainly interrupt or dominate the story or bash the reader over the head like the panels in the article.

The books sold much, much better then and cost under a buck.

And they were fun and took you away for a little while.

Thank God for back issues.

It is just amazing to me that this jerk supports the very political party that put his family into a concentration camp for being born in Japan (his parents) or of Japanese descent (him and any siblings), while claiming to be the party of civil rights and equality. This is as brainless as a Black person voting for the Dems who wanted them enslaved, and put Jim Crow into place.

Yeah, agreed. Takei if anything should be a Republican and Conservative and specifically cite what the Democrats did during World War II to Japanese Americans as the reason why he won’t buy into the Democrat party line.

Still... at least he DID show a brain recently when he called the guys who made Star Trek Beyond out for making Hikaru Sulu gay like himself and disagreed with the decision. That’s definitely something very worthy of respect.
