I was watching this tonight and found it interesting. At about 3:00 mark is when President Reagan begin his speech before AFL-CIO. It's a great speech and the Trump people will especially like the last line of this speech. Also since I was in college classes at Ohio State at this time I never saw this.

I wonder why nobody ever made a big deal about the connections between the Hinkley family and the Bush family. Or like even mentioned it.

One of George H W Bush’s many attempts to become President of the United States.

Did the news media blame “right wing extremists”??
The newscast of this to watch is the ABC coverage where they pronounced Jim Brady dead and then undead and Frank Reynolds goes nuclear on the air about being fed bad information.

I remember a kid at school celebrating. First time I realized how evil the left can be.

Whatever, many believe the assassination attempt saved Poland from the Soviet invasion. Why? How?
1) The USA didn't know whom Hinkley really was and could suspect the USSR might stand behind him.
2) Moscow, which had been preparing for the massive invasion of Poland in April 1981, could suspect the USA would blame the USSR thinking that the assassination of the POTUS would be in order to stop the USA from any action.
So, the kind of chaos in the USA, the unknown development in the USA scared the USSR which feared for America's possible response and this in turn finally made them to abandon any plans of the military invasion of the Warsaw Pact. Almost immediately after, general Jaruzelski was appointed the chief of the govt and the preparations for the Martial Law to stifle the Solidarity with internal forces began in full swing.

Thanks for the link. I plan to watch it later tonight. I was in Marine boot camp on Parris Island when this happened and it was the only time the DI's broke character and talked to us about what was going on in the outside world.
I'm surprised to see that CNN was around back then. I always thought they got started in the late 1980s and had no idea they were around at the time of Reagan's shooting. I just looked it up and learned that CNN has been on the air since 1980. I would definitely be interested to see how they covered the election.
