We need to normalize our relationship with Viet Nam; the country is politically and economically where China was under Deng.
Barack Obama is the worst possible person to begin this. (Hillary would be a very close second.)

To me, it would be a bigger disgrace if that America-hating, homosexual mooslim went through the motions of "honoring" our dead on Memorial Day.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. This is a geo-political tactic to help contain China’s expansion. This would happen even if a Republican was in office.

Given that the Vietnamese will likely be using them to kill Red Chinese, this might actually be okay.

While I agree that obungle is an America-hater who has no respect for our military or our veterans, Viet Nam today is not the Viet Nam of 1968. With China rattling its saber in the Southeast of Asia, I suspect this is simply posturing to let the Chinese know that we have a presence there too, and we're not going to let them steamroll our allies.
Of course, with odungheap as a president, it's all just idle jibjab. And the idea of posing with a Ho Chi Minh statue is just typical of either his incompetence or his arrogance.
But the Vietnamese are not the Viet Cong and Viet Minh of the war era. Just like the Japanese of today are not like Tojo's pawns from WWII.

I doubt if any Japanese Prime Minister would agree to pose in front of an over-sized bust of Harry S. Truman.

If you have a Microsoft Lumia phone, look on the About screen, they are made in Vietnam at the Lumia factory there. Microsoft is selling that factory to Lenovo.
The U.S. also sold Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner airliners. They took delivery of the first one last year. Here’s a picture of the Boeing 787 in the Vietnam Airlines colors. Click on pictures for larger image at link below:

First of all, the enemy of your enemy is NOT always your friend.
But more than that, I doubt if any Japanese Prime Minister would agree to pose in front of an over-sized bust of Harry S. Truman. And no American President should be so craven as to pose in front of an over-sized bust of Ho Chi Minh.

My issue is not **necessarily** the normalizing of relations. I understand it isn’t the same country, and I would have liked more transparency on the fates of some of the POW’s, etc.
But whether normalizing is good or bad, it shouldn’t be conducted in front of a grinning bust of Ho Chi Minh, the murdering SOB.
