Some aspiring teachers who immigrated to the U.S. illegally as children can now apply for certification and licenses under new regulations adopted Tuesday by the state Board of Regents.
The board approved the new regulations despite opposition from some Republican and conservative lawmakers.
"Today thousands of young people across the state have gained new opportunities," said Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa said. "Their futures are no longer restricted in New York."
The rule changes apply to people covered by the 2012 federal DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) policy which gives a work permit and temporary permission to be in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants who came here as kids.
Those people are now free to apply for a variety of professional licenses — such as pharmacy, dentistry and engineering — granted by the state Department of Education.
"These are young people who came to the U.S. as children," said state Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia. "They are American in every way but immigration status. They've done everything right. They've worked hard in school, some have even served in the military. Now these young people are eligible to get professional licenses and teacher certification in New York State, opening a new world of economic opportunity for them."
Yet the Dems claim that e-Verify will work.
These are the same dems that just approved a THREE YEAR extension of mayoral control of NYC schools by DiBlASSio, who is being investigated for financial corruption. Their heads are ALSO corrupt. They are deaf, dumb and blind, so long as they are supporting a fellow dumbocrat. The schools have never been worse as under this moron.
