Have a need to use my rickety old website. It is a 200 page FrontPage monster which has been sitting out at my ISP for quite a few years with little updating.
I have recently been approached about restarting my column nationally. Am so excited!
I would like to use the webpage as the vehicle and realize that it will need to be upgraded.
I run WIN7. There is no extension left for Frontpage and the software currently does not recognize the website, there isn't even a screen to put in the username and code. The ISP states that FTP is in place.
Some places I go say that my os is at fault and I tried running in XP mode. Different screens but didn't get any further. Would I need to find an old computer with XP on it?
What I need is someone who can help me connect and help me get it running so I can change content daily and make some hyperlink changes.
I know I should be using something else, I know that there is great difference of opinion between MS users and the world, I know that I am an ignorant slut. I get it.
What I need to know most, though, is where can I find someone with this skill set. The last two website folks I spoke to did not even know what frontpage was. I need someone who can help me fire up this creaky tech behemoth

I use front page to create my web content as I always have.
Download FileZilla. It’s free. I had my ISP godaddy talk me through setting up FileZilla with all its passwords and ip addresses, etc. it’s really easy to use. More reliable than front page for uploading too.

Do yourself a favor and forget about reviving that old clunky FrontPage site. Web technology has moved light years beyond that. For a few dollars a month you are better off starting clean and fresh with a professional Web Builder service like GoDaddy or SquareSpace. I’m sure other Freepers will chime in on this. Good luck with your column and Freepmail us links when you have it up and running.

The most cost effective solution would be to purchase just one of their programs: CoffeeCup Responsive Site Designer, but there are companion programs available that allow for more customization and flexibility. Fully-functional trial versions are available and you can get quick help from their excellent software support and user forums during the trial period. Yeah, there's a learning curve, but all of their software is designed with relatively unsophisticated users in mind, which doesn't mean that hot-coders would scoff at using it.

I think Sam Adams provides the best advice. Squarespace is cheap. Otherwise you’ll spend the next couple/few years learning HTML 5, CSS3, Javascript, Ruby on Rails, etc... btw, your old site is gonna look terrible next to all the new ones. Good luck and have fun.
I would not continue using the FP site. The code is non standard and will probably break in modern browsers as time goes on.
Microsoft Extensions Web replaced FrontPage. It is a free download and will run on new systems

There are several articles on the web on how to convert FP to expressions. You can also use expressions to extract the website info to put into Wordpress or any other system

Wow! I got it open. It is asking for security certificates and I am clarifying it with experthost right now!
Had not idea that Ms had an upgrade that would convert the site. Thank you.
Cannot have that done right away but at some point that would save a lot of work of convert 200 plus pages!
