The latest Windows 10 preview has been released by Microsoft, with changes making it more Linux and web-friendly.
Gone, however, is automatic Wi-Fi sharing with contacts, with Microsoft citing low uptake over cost of development.
Extensions to Edge, Microsoft’s browser alternative to Internet Explorer, in Windows 10 build 14342 can now be downloaded from the Windows Store.
It ends the need to extract and load them from a local store but, Microsoft has warned pioneers, you’ll have to re-install any extensions they might have.
Extensions are also available for AdBlock and Adblock Plus and a range of other applications while Edge also now works with real-time notifications.
Running Linux tools and utilities on Windows also got easier.
A range of improvements to Bash on Ubuntu sees Symlinks within Windows Subsystem for Linux now work on the mounted Windows directories.
Other changes include a range of fixes to the Windows 10 build.
Removed from build 14342 is Wi-Fi Sense for sharing networks with your contacts and automatically connecting to Wi-Fi networks with those shared by your contacts.
Gabe Aul, engineering systems team corporate vice president, blogged:
“The cost of updating the code to keep this feature working combined with low usage and low demand made this not worth further investment. Wi-Fi Sense, if enabled, will continue to get you connected to open Wi-Fi hotspots that it knows about through crowdsourcing.”You can read more here.

I dread the day when I have to switch or buy a computer with Win10.
I just had my computer guy install Windows 10 from 7.
I have issues that it frequently goes to just the 4 blue windows with no icons (although they show at bottom of screen) and nothing works - not the mouse or clicking on the bottom icons. If I leave it alone it comes back to the regular screen. Also I can reboot and it works.
Any thoughts. I have checked all the connections. Is there any issues with the computer sleeping?

You're talking about the caching feature that works like an ad hoc WSUS server? I like the idea of only having to download once and distributed internally but I'll never be comfortable with the lack of control over the patching process.
It does not seem like Win10 manages memory as well as Win7.
My wife and I share the computer, but usually logged in but not at the same time (obviously). But when either of us have locked our account with browsers and files open and the other uses the computer we get frequent out of memory messages. That was not a problem in Win7.
I can’t remember how much RAM we have, probably 8 gigs but I can’t say I’m all that impressed with Win10.
I've read that it's caused by some sort of hangup in the shell.

I’m not trying to be funny or snarky, but your best bet is go back to Windows 7.

This would be COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE for a PC that a business depended upon to stay in business, say, like a point of sale system, factory process control, or in a hospital.
That doesn’t sound good. Windows doesn’t handle forced hard reboots very well. Wonder what is causing it. Have you researched it on the internet? Also seems to be an issue with windows account information and credentialing. Or maybe it gets lost in the weeds before it gets to that point?
Windows peaked with version 7.
Download GodMode You’ll see all necessary clickable items in one long page. You’ll be able to turn on/off features that need attention.
Might you have an queued up update that didn’t complete? Can you check this?
When I get home I might look into it. It has been annoying.

Thanks. I did download it. I previously went through the control panel. Any suggestions on specifics that may need to be turned off.
After a period of time (seems long?) the full screen comes back or I can reboot it. I did go back to the update process twice and no new updates.
Win10=Spyware
I may switch to Linux when I’m forced to drop Win7. For Windows Programs (to service clients) at that point I will use VM’s that pop up as needed, but have no “world” access other than as needed.
Check the Power Options in GodMode.
Otherwise, use the troubleshooter in Maintenance.
Since I installed win 10 I have been getting memory messages too. First time ever. I’ve always had plenty of memory to do whatever I wanted. I ran four screens with a massive trading program, news, etc. and had no problems. Now all of a sudden when I’m doing nothing but surfing I’m out of memory?
I’ve hated win 10 since I installed it.
