I would like to see Ethel and Edna make a comeback.
About a decade ago, Madison was a popular girl’s name—probably because it was the name of a character in some TV show or movie. To me, it sounds like a boy’s name.
Don’t forget Matilda!
Blanche!
Madison became popular after the movie “Splash” with Daryl Hannah, in which she got the name “Madison” from a street sign for Madison Avenue. She was a mermaid in that movie who came on land and didn’t have a human name as I recall.
Amazing how names pop up in our culture.
Seriously? I don’t like either one of them.
I object to this entire subject.
Reason being, I’m trying to be liberal.
Liberals tell us we should not assign a gender at birth to babies.
Thus, flowing from that logic, we should also not assign gender specific names to babies at birth, under the assumption that they will grow up to be members of the gender we assign them at birth.
We will not truly know the sex of each baby born until they grow up and decide what their gender identity is. So it’s a form of oppression to assign them a gender specific name at birth. Who the heck do these parents think they are???
The above is meant to be sarcastic. Just can’t resist poking fun at the liberals sometimes.
Didn’t realize Noah was so popular. But won’t people tease those boys about Noah’s Ark?
I know a kid who was named John Paul, and was teased a lot about Pope John Paul. And I’m sure any girls named Hillary will be teased about Hillary Clinton.
How about Gertrude and Gertrude? Can’t get more gender equal than that. Gertrude B Stein was a progressive lesbian. Among many achievements, “The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas”, the life history of her/his life partner.
How ‘bout Bertha & Gertrude? LOL
Hortense
Latisha
There’s a major street not far from here called Santa Gertrudes—named for Gertrude of Helfta, a thirteenth-century East German theologian and Christian apologist.
In Britain it’s Mohammed.
Isn’t Ethel what you put in your gas tank?
