Unpaid traffic tickets became a felony after 6 months.

A felony for a revenue violation. Sheesh.

They are doing this in NYC today. Anyone with open warrants are supposedly allowed to go in and get them cleared up. One of my nieces posted this to another about her b/f that might have had open warrants. When I reposted this on FB I was told by someone who knows the ins and outs of jail, said it was probably a scam, as they had run one of them same a few years earlier. Rounded up a bunch of felons to jail.
Don’t know if it is or not. I do know a lot of peeps up here in NY don’t trust em.

This was back when the police were tying all of their databases together, and it was easy to avoid an old ticket - just don't drive through that state again.

I think that the problem came about when the officer wrote it for more than 20 mph over the limit, which allowed it to be moved to a felony. I am sure that the legislators looked at the revenue side when deciding which misdemeanors to push up a category.

As I recall, the officer could have tagged him for over 40 mph over the limit (~110 mph) but didn't get a great read from the radar unit.

Nowadays, ignore a summons at your own peril.
